CA 12000 TRD LE... Or is it?
« on: September 30, 2013, 03:44:21 PM »

Hi All,

Just to let you know a bit of background;

This is the second CA 12000 TRD I have brought from this company, and I was very pleased with the first.
The bat has all the taletale signs of being a TRD, including toe guard and holograms

However, everything which I know about bats is shouting at me that this is a fake. I spent £175 on this bat and I trusted the owner to pick me out a good'un like the last one, though it will be going back because I use 2lb9/2lb10 and this is 2lb7.

I wanted the thought of the masses before it goes back.

Cheers all.

Out of interest, why do you think it's a fake? The holograms are a good indicator that it's legit...

I'm no expert on CA bats but i do rebind the handles on a number of brand new ones imported from back home by Pakistanis living in Peterborough, they bring them to me still in the plastic wrap and ask me to sort the binding out.

The sticker on the edges looks wrong to me. There also should be a circular (i think hologramed) sticker depicting a bat mallet carrying the words 'fully knocked' on the front of the bat, which is not there. The 'A' sticker on the back also seems poorly applied.

Does the grip have a contrast coloured ribbon where you put the top hand, with CA branding? Does the toe guard say TRD?

All of this seems quite typical of CA bats though, poor finishing, sticker inaccuracies and weight discrepancies, not sure how anyone can 100% say it is fake when there is so much variation in the genuine product. On the other side, the willow looks good.

Another way of finding out is to call CA or email them and ask if they have supplied CA bats to the company you bought it from

Not too sure but even I think it might be fake. CA TRDs and CA 15000 + are very beautiful cosmetically, no blemishes and for sure more than 9 grains usually without any blemishes. Did bat come with barcode stickers, if it has just verify the bar code on CA website online and you can check the authenticity.

I bet it's not 2.7 either.  Something tells me that weight isn't fully dressed...

it looks like some stickers have been removed from the back, sort of shadow/imprint left behind.

This does look a fake, the stickering on the front just looks wrong. The TRD sticker is way to low. Also as mentioned earlier, the TRD is a top line bat, there should be no blemishes at all.

Check this video out, it is a original TRD at all angles.

I hope you work it all out mate.

CA 12000+ and CA 10000+ usually come with Pink grips.

The grip DOES have the two tone grip and the toe DOES say TRD. This is why it through me - but as you say, the finish does not seem as good as my original CA 12000 TRD.

I just wasnt sure guys. For Grade one, the willow has a few marks and is knotted - but honestly, what is grade 1...

I had exactly the same thing with a Plus 15000 albeit the bat itself was pretty good and had clean straight grains. Was this seller registered as being in Dubai by any chance?

The stickers will be the biggest give away if you compare them to your previous bat. Mine had a 15000 branded toe guard as well.

The cosmetics and lack of detail to sticker application alone would suggest this is not genuine.

I'm sorry but it is a genuine CA, however, a counterfeit CA 12000 TRD LE.
