Hi guys, I have owned plenty of bats over the last five years (around 30ish) and they are nearly always top-shelf sort of stuff. I have always used extratec sheets right from the start and get the bats refurbished each year which includes a new extratec sheet so I have never had too close a look at the grains and how they react during the knocking in process. Early this week, I bought a new Spartan MC Limited Edition: have applied 4 light coats of oil, used a mallet to knock it in for quite a few hours. I used it against some throw downs and there were some slight seam marks so went back to the mallet for a while longer. I used it in the nets this afternoon against an old ball and there are no more seam marks but if you look closely in the sun, there are a few small cracks in the middle of grains that run for around an inch or two. Is this a problem or is it what they call "opening up"?
I would put up some pics but all I have is an iPad which doesn't seem to allow me to upload the link etc.
