Afternoon all,

As some of you may know my biggest OCD is in batting pads, I can never ever find ever find the right pair. I have been through so many pairs in the last 3 years it's ridiculous!

I get a pair, love them and then within a week or so I find a fault (this is mainly due to my OCD). I have brought pads before, never worn them yet still found fault.

My main issue is the instep, where no matter what I try a hole always appears - it would seem that the cane is pushing against it which causes the hole to appear. You may say it happens over time but I've had issues where it's happened after 1 innings. 2 of the pairs it's happened to:

 


Now it's not even a case of buying cheaper pads as I like the majority of us on here am a snob for wanting only the best available and I buy top of the range stuff. The insteps are leather and padded so you would think I would be ok... I'm not!

So with that I thought I would try a mesh instep - great, it works! 6-7 games in and there are no holes there everything is fantasticooo , until I look at the front of my pad and see this:

 


Now I know many of you will say, it's not affecting performance stop moaning and get on with it but for me pads shouldn't show wear and tear that extreme after a few games.

I have tried 9 brands now and I have found a fault in every pair.... I NEED HELP!!

Also I have always wondered do we need pads of "test level" for the level we play (non of us are test level on here as far as I'm aware). Which brings me to another point are lesser ranged pads built better and going to last over a longer period of time...? For example I know of a couple of people who play on the highest leagues around here(Birmingham premier league) and played county 2s using the GM 808 model they have had for years and the protection seems to work wonders...

Does anybody else have a problem or OCD like this and also can anybody help recommend a pair which (fingers crossed) tick all my boxes and stop me buying pair after pair...!!

What size do you use and what height are you? Personally, I don't mind a little wear to my pads, they always feel better after a little wear. I used to just use regular mens pads, but have changed to small mens, and it really does make a difference! Not as much time is needed to get into shape and they don't feel so bulky. I used the Kahuna K1000s last year, and my only issue with them was that there was no padding in the top strap, so it could feel uncomfortable at times, so I bought a pair of Quantum Elites from the SD sale, and so far, they seem to be good! I'll have a check for wear and tear, but I think it could be different for everyone. I don't think you would have that issue with Aero P1 pads!

Get a grip man! Try batting in matches for only 1-2 balls at a time. THis will negate the problem of them wearing out! I find it works wonders!

I just wear them normally, will try and find a picture though if I can. I don't have them loose or extra tight

Buy a pair of Puma's, mine haven't worn out in 2 years use but my Duck and Runs have similar problems after 1 season.

I'm 6ft1 and use small mens, so might be worth considering mate.
Another option, get a fabric instep instead of leather, they last longer from my experience (and don't squeak!)

Not sure what you mean here. Don't the buckles have to in the inside?

For some manufacturers....For example Kookaburra their pads are designed to have the buckles on the outside of the pad. This is because their lead leg has 9 canes as opposed to 7 I think it is. Therefore the two pads are different and it makes it obvious which pad is for which leg. For some pads though i don't think it makes a big difference as some pads match exactly I believe.

It depends on the pads, I think my Kookaburra K1000s had an extra cane on the front leg, so I had the buckle on the outside. It felt weird to start with, but I've gotten so used to it that it's what I do with any pads now! If you have long straps though, you kind of need the buckle on the inside IMO.
