Sounds to me like you're trying to avoid discussing the issue raised. I don't think we have veered off topic. The title clearly says it is about SD bargains.

How do they do it, eh?

I'm not avoiding anything. But as an Admin of a very large forum (nothing to do with cricket) i understand the frustration of threads veering wildly from one subject to the next, often to the point where someone new dropping in on page 20 for example will have no idea what is being discussed, especially considering the title of the topic remains the same.

SD pay the minimum wage, they don't break any laws. They buy equipment on clearance and in bulk, i suspect that even then they make tiny margins, and at this time of year during their big bargain sale that so many of us (myself included) have taken advantage of, they are clearing their warehouse at a loss to make way for new stock.

Do they exploit workers? Ultimately it is the individuals choice on where they work. Yes i know there is a jobs crisis at the moment, but as a quick example i know a number of friends/contacts who have had jobs available that they are unable to fill, it has been like this for months.

My point was just a counter to the hype about zero hours contracts being exploitative.

Did we say apartheid in South Africa isn't too bad because it's not as bad as what the Nazis did?

Not my original post but i can give you an example. My friend has been ytring to fill a junior web developer vacancy for nearly a year. He's tried apprenticeships the lot but there just arent alot of people out there with the skills (or people prepared to learn them).

So there is your example, really not sure its relevant to the forum or threads original intentions. If you'd like to discuss it further please can you start a new thread in the pavilion? I'm not trying to stifle you but this thread has 5 pages of fairly decent healthy debate and now it will go dead as people read this.

So back to SD bargains.....

Well, to help get this back on track....

I bought a couple of pairs of trousers, socks along with a pair of batting pads. In addition, although technically not SD, I bought a used GN Viper Carbo from ebay for the rather impressive £5.50 + postage. It was advertised as used but didn't declare that it had a crack at the bat. Although i was rather miffed it is easily fixed with some glue and more than happy with the total of just over £11 for the cost of what looks like a decent stick!

Pads are Quantum Elites. Bought them to potentially wear or sell on @ £30 but have decided to keep them and Jake from Vitas is kindly helping me choose some batting gloves to go with them!

Bat....Weights a touch over 2lb 10

Back on topic. Treated myself to the GT pads and gloves, they look classy and are well made. This is the first time I have matching pads, gloves and bat , if only I had sense to buy the Cadbury bag when Soulman had it on sale !.

I think the newbery gear on SD were youth size only.

Did you manage to get them in mens?
