Mjolnir Players from ProDirect

Has anybody bought one of these? They're being sold for £137 which I think is a bargain. It's my favourite shape, being more of a traditionalist.

I love the, what is now, old Mjolnir. I really do not like the way they have messed around with the edges.

I had a look and it looks light the 'light' weight range is all they have left - If there was a 'medium' (2lb10oz) for that price, I would have brought one!

Still for me, the best balanced bat on the market, today or at anytime. As the Americans say, 'Period'.

Personally I love the new profile for the Mjolner, I bought one when I was at Hove getting my Kudos made. I always looked the Mjolner but never felt I would be confident using a small edged bat. Either way the Mjolner profile is very nice.

After reading that the Mjolnir shape will be changed to a more modern design I decided to take the plunge and buy one of the PDC bats - it arrived today and OMG, for alight bat this thing is huge!!!!

It has 10-11 straight grains, a massive profile and perfect balance. I've never been a big edge fan as I prefer to use the middle of my bat :-)

I had initially spoken to Asad about the stunning SPS version he had picked from his trip there and was about to buy it before I had a change of heart due to the price - having kids does this!

A players bat at this price was too good to turn down though - I was looking to keep using my M&H Original for next season but think it's going to be playing second fiddle now. I absolutely love this shape ;-)

I'll get some pictures up later.

Sounds lovely, I've always loved the shape and pick up of the Mjolnir, just a shame I toe it fairly often! Could you please check the blade width at the toe and the shoulder? I always found that the Mjolnir looked a little narrower in width than most bats, but it might just be my eyes playing tricks on me! (It's probably just the very unique profile it has, by today's standards, which makes me feel this way) Just something that has been bugging me for a while haha!

You have realised its a junior haven't you?

Yeah, available in Harrow and i'm 5 ft 8.

Was going to post it in the recent Harrow thread but couldn't find it. The weight would be my 1 concern.

You are most likely to get weights between 2lbs 2 -5 oz . Wish sellers would list weights of harrow bats. It would have saved money for many short people including me  :D .

Here are some pics taken from my phone. One thing I've notice about this bat is the size of the shoulders - they look like a rugby player looking down from the handle, one thing my other Mjolnir didn't have.

The edges are 17-18mm at most but the spine height is a whopping 67mm = A huge playing area!!!!!

Sooo looking forward to having a tap with the mallet later :-)

How heavy was it James?

They only had light in stock mate (2.7-9lb) so I asked for the heaviest one they had, being a 2.9-10 fan. I wasn't too worried, as these bats always pickup light due to the weight distribution so even a heavier bat can seem lighter. I'll check later as I'm at work at the moment.

Both come in at 105mm Chad, which is just inside the 108mm limit. It must be a visual trick or something ;-)

Just weighed the bat and its 2lb 9.5oz on the button.

Used an older ball to bounce on it and I was in danger of putting the light out!

On a side note, does anyone know how long it takes roughly to knock in a newbery bat with the hammer edge on?

Thanks, James

Being beautifully pressed , they can be knocked in quickly. I would guess a little over an hour with a heavy mallet. They do dent nicely with cracking.
Lovely profile !
