Just wondered if anyone else had the same issues as me.

I use OSM Batting pads due to length required but I find the strap lengths to differ across different companies. I have a set of Gray Nicolls in which the strap length is perfect but with my preferred soft choice of Kookaburra, the straps always need folding over to prevent them from catching each other on the inside leg.

How do strap lengths differ across other companies? I've never used anything outside of Gray Nicolls and Kookaburra so would be interested to hear your experiences. Gunn and Moors, Salix, Newbery, any of the forum sponsors pads?

My ancient Newberys (actually acquired from Murray Goodwin, and they were well "used" when I got them) have longish straps that need folding, if you will. Bought two pairs of Ayrtek Elites (one for my lad LH, and a RH set for me) and the straps are perfect and need no 'doubling'. Not that you can get them (new) anymore...

Bringing this topic back to life... with a twist.

I have just purchased another set of batting pads (I am not sure why I need so many pairs... oh well) and the straps are way too long.  I have small legs but these are ridiculously long.

Doe anybody have any ideas for shortening the pads straps?  I could remove the Velcro and cut to length then re-stitch the Velcro on but my sewing is crap (would I need a special needle and thread?) and I would also lose the nice leather embossed logo part of the strap.

Ideally I would like to unpick the seam take the strap out cut it and put stitch it in... is this viable?  Does anybody know where I can get this done in London?

The Velcro only just touches and they aren't even tight enough.  I could double strap, but with the difference being so much is that even feasible?  I could do a whole loop around my leg first and still have some left over.

I had that long strap problem too with a pair of kookaburra r900's. I used very large and strong safety pins to take the slack out. Needs readjusting every so often but seemed to work well for me. I wasn't willing to risk cutting the straps and reattaching.

I sold these to a teammate last season and replaced them with some puma bionics. The strap length on the puma's are perfect for a skinny lad like myself. No need to fold over.

There is an easy solution to this. Go to the gym, work on your legs and bulk them up. Hey presto, pads fit!

Or get angry, borrow any destructive powertool and turn them into cushion filling!

As the not-so-proud owner of a couple of scrawny legs, i have found that the only pads available that fit me comfortably are Puma pads. Short length straps which don't require folding.

You can criss cross but it is very village or add some extra velcro on the sides so the bit of strap hanging out can attach to it. Again not very pleasing to the eye but it will keep them snug and stop them from nicking the balls.

You may need to use superglue to keep the velcro in.

I have done the same on my Aeros and it seems to work perfectly.
