that was back in the day when i guess the regulations on the composition of the bat and handle were less stringent

It came into fashion and then went out again, there may be some knocking around but they would be illegal.

How much weight was in the metal tube?

Surely elastoplast doesn't offer much weight as a counter balance.

They'd be nothing to stop someone putting a denser wood in the top of the handle though would there?

I'd go for Lignum Vitae from the Windies

I've used Ebony and the effect was less than impressive. I'll be buying some lignum vitae soon so hopefully it will be better.

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of using elastoplast as a counterbalance or I saw Vantage cricket say cut up grips into inch long strips and apply that to the top of the bat, so has anyone tried that?

I have tried the bit of extra grip at the top of the bat and it works well enough, it won't transform you bat into a magic wand with perfect pick up though... on my bats i have used a combination of lead tape, some cloth tape (to old the tape in place) and a bit of extra grip.

It works better if you usually hold the bat near the bottom of the handle. If you hold the bat more like Adam Gilchrist, don't bother!

Tried this today with some electrical tape, wrapped a huge amount around the top of the handle, have to say it doesnt weigh that much but can already feel a better pick up, i'm liking this concept!!

Watch that the grip doesn't pull the tape down
