VKS GM Purist F2
« on: November 07, 2013, 07:38:52 PM »

Evening guys

I know many of you may have seen this advertised on the VKS thread a few days ago. When I saw it I sent a PM expecting to be told that it had been sold but happily it was still available. This is added to my growing collection of GM bats this year. Thought I would do a quick initial review.

Firstly I would like to point out the great service I received from Vinay at VKS. Very quick to reply to PM's in a polite manner and sent me a good description of the bat. Phoned the shop at 1pm on Wednesday afternoon and was delivered to my office this morning at 9am and all for £5 postage cost. Bat was also boxed up nicely and was bubble wrapped and also cardboard around that so very well protected.

So the bat itself, Vinay told me weighed dead on 2.10 on the scales but he said picked up lighter, this is most defiantly the case I would have said feels about 2.8 with 39mm edges. This is a 606 model which according to GM is unbleached G3 English willow that can contain colour and a few minor blemishes. As you can see 50% heartwood but it is dead straight and is on my outside edge. 10 grains that are nice and straight and as you can see on the back of the bat of the bat the grains run nice and straight on both front and back of the bat. Flat faced with the F2 profile. He Purist has a similar bulge to the Zona but not quite as pronounced, when in your stance this is not as noticeable but looks lovely on the side on profile, with a mod placed middle which aids excellent pick up. Also has the new GM ripple grip which is very comfy and I would expect loads of people to use these in the coming season and will defiantly be replacing all the grips on my GM's

Performance has only been tested on a mallet and tapping up an old ball. Someone said that GM with closer grains tend to be a little more responsive and this does seem to be the case as this bat taps up very well already with a lovely sound from both ball and mallet.

The final point I would like to point out is the amazing deals our forum sponsors can offer us due to hand picking there bats. This is only a 606 and both this and the Argon 606 I got from Jake at Vitas knock spots off the 606 Icon from PDC. This is not just in appearance but also performance not to mention the customer service and real honest description of the bat you are buying. On both occasions what I was told is exactly what I received.

Here are some pics of a bat that I'm sure will see a bit of action next season

Looks a nice one mate.

GM don't let retailers hand pick bats, but i tend to be able to get what the customer wants, as you have found in the past. :)

Just thought I would update this after the Purist had its first serious outing tonight at nets.

I was considering adding a 2nd grip but held off until tonight and will not be adding as once wearing gloves the single ripple feels great.

Anyway used for about an hour tonight after about an hour or so on the mallet and it is still pretty dead lower down. BUT the bulge this model has does give it some awesome ping when you find the middle. The middle is also very generous and runs a large way up the blade.

Verdict is its good and will no doubt become very good especially for the money. I think though this is typical of a lot of GM especially the lower models in thy I think it will take a good while to really get going but when it does could easily become a Sunday midweek match bat.

Thanks again to VKS for great service.

The new GM grips are really nice. In fact we have sent a couple out to mail order customers who have asked for a second grip, but we have requested them to try using the original single grip first because they simply are so good. All credit to GM for listening to all the customer feedback from last year, where we said they needed to do something about their grips as were pretty outdated.

I agree with you, the GM bats do take a little longer to open up, but when they do, they feel great. I am sure your bat will just get better the more you use it!
