From what I understand he does make bats from scratch. He doesn't have a press, but I recall reading that he does press his own bats using someone else's press.

What I love (and hate) on the forum is the vast difference in both people and opinions.

We have the know it alls that wish to put down other products. We have the followers who instantly buy the new bats that are in trend. Then you have the guys who do a little research, talk to the bat maker and then buy a bat based on talking to the guy.

Before I make my main point, those questioning Affinity need only look at who teamed up with them? Clearly Tomtek isnt going to have his brand name associated with any old bat maker. A guy who has all the contacts in the trade, uses bats made by who?

Now onto Marcus. Having dealt with him, he is one of the few batmakers I would trust to give me the bat that suits my game. He spends time talking to you to get an understanding of what you are looking for, and he makes a bat to suit how you play, not how you would like to play. If you talk to Marcus you soon realise this is a lot more than just a business, but its a passion for him. He really does live and breath the brand. A guy who I would bet by bottom dollar would refuse to let a bat leave him unless he was completely satisfied with it. Come to think of it, has anyone seen a real negative review of an Affinity bat?

Why is it, rather than celebrate guys like Marcus going the extra mile and creating a brand in the market with its own identity, people who cant be bothered to get their lazy bottom off their PC chair wish to criticise?

I should add, this rant is not aimed at this thread, but I have read a variety of posts mentioning Affinity and this is the cumulative reaction!

If that is aimed at me so be it where is the criticism?????

I see somebody talking about Podshavers in the traditional sense and i thought i would ask a question...

It's long overdue for a true bat manufacturer, to be passionate,,critical,,innovative ,,and above all, he actually gives a sh#t about what he produces.
The way these bats both look, and more importantly perform,,has to be seen to be believed

My faith in pod shapers has been well and truly restored.
I'm looking forward to destroying bowling attacks next season with my Affinity Spectre,,and hopefully my son and his Affinity Carbine,(looks wayyyyy too good to use!) will perform for Somerset

Thank you Marcus

I could elaborate the question if you like

I have massive respect to all makers/sanders/shapers  and machine men but debate it is it not a slur i like Affinity they look real top class bats indeed/

BACK ON TOPIC PAUL great looking bats i'm sure they will all sell

I'd just go back to the batoff we did that Marcus' first bat featured in. It won. He's  an excellent batmaker, and I believe has also started planting willow to go truly set to blade. He certainly goes from raw cleft to complete bat now.

The only ho hum review I have seen of affinity bats was by a English female cricketer who was comparing 3 different brands. I can't remember the article and have been trying to find it ever since. I love them. I use high middle bats cause of the pitches in Perth but I'm still going to get a spectre.

Pro cricket,,,,is there a reason you appear slightly negative, in regard to Marcus/Affinity?

I waited a year,,,read every review etc,,,talked to both Paul at ijc,,and guys who put their money where their mouths are,,and bought an Affinity bat...
And found not one single negative comment,,either regarding Marcus or his products

Not negative just honest you made this claim and i asked a question plain and simple.

Shoulders and toe never lie you talked about a true batmaker i asked a question plain and simple.

I respect many people who put there money where there mouth is i do with my purchases too.

In truth this is a cricket forum if your going to big a product up that is not well known expect questions.

My description of Affinity as pod shavers/shaper,,is based on the fact,,while discussing bats with Marcus, he took it upon himself to re shape a bat I'd brought along to show him...totally transforming the pick up and balance..
And in turn,,my appreciation of anyone skilled enough to attempt to create genuine decent bats.

I suppose without 'facts' it's easy to propagate a feeling of mistrust?
Why don't you pay Affinity a visit?

No feeling of mistrust it was a question a simple question.

I guess i could pay them a visit no worries but only venture down South a few times of year so might do.

As for negativity i have talked a few times with Marcus all be it a while ago i know the company he keeps in terms of cricket contacts so why would i doubt him i doubt more people who talk about what he offers i think that's where the confusion lies.

Alot is being asked when i only asked a question maybe it a translation issue but where is my negativity.

I can remember a old Chase thread from a few years ago the same question was asked then....
