What players do you think changed the way limited overs cricket is played?....

250 used to be a big score back in the day... But things changed somewhere along the line and now 300+ is regularly scored.

Who do you think influenced this change?

I have my opinions but will see what others have to say first...

Shorter boundaries, less fielders allowed out of the circle and hit and giggle cricket showing you can get 200+ in 20 overs (you have over twice the number of balls so I'm half expecting 500 in an ODI innings)

The Lankan openers Jayasurya and Kaluwitharana certainly showed how to attack early in an innings, however from what I have read Mark Greatbach, K. Srikanth were supposedly good at hitting over the infield in the first fifteen overs. I started watching cricket from 1996 World cup before which I didn't have a clue about cricket.

 Jayasurya and Kaluwitharana were the 2 most influential batsmen in limited overs I believe... I still remember the pocket dynamo being promoted to opener against Aus and preceeding to smash the ball to all parts on the ground.. Particularly beautiful shots continuously over covers which went like tracer bullets. Then Jayasurya at the other end... What a nightmare

see, two Sri lankan's whose names I can't spell.

although their opening partnership was a bit of a myth, they never really teed off together, and they had aravinda de silver to back them up. as well as arjuna ranatunga, the finest captain of a generation.

They were devastating when on full flow, It wasn't a dirty slog but rather audacious strokeplay. I remember trying to use a magnifying glass on cricket magazine to find what bats they were using, cable television was just starting to roll out into the rural areas in India. The national channel telecast wasn't the clearest.
