Had a 1 on 1 session with a coach this morning at Guildfords' Surrey Centre to improve my batting. Picking apart everything and re-building.
Never had any coaching and don't have much talent with the bat but the coach picked up on a few things straight away, tweaked my stance, tweaked my grip then 7 buckets of balls later I was knackered.
Concentrated on front foot first then the last part on short stuff, getting me in line better and improving things all round.
Towards the end he did compare me with an England test player, trouble was it's Trotty in his current form

stepping too far across to off with the short stuff.

Now to remember everything, practice and save up a few quid for another session, �45 all in for 50 mins does tend to put a little hole in the wallet.

Have a session with him then do 10-12 hours on your own machine working on those ares (video all your sessions to check your doing it right), then go back, show him you've improved and he'll move onto something else. Has to be the cheapest way to do it

That's the hard bit I find, being able to get access to a bowling machine. Not many around in my area.

Its better than how I learnt to play the short stuff... 12 years old and your dad puts the bowling machine on 80mph and bowls short stuff at your ribs! When you miss one it REALLY hurts so you learn not to miss them.

I certainly am not wishing for a return to the days of hearing the phrase "It builds character...".

I'm surprised clubs don't allow their members to 'loan' the club one for sessions. Good for the club and player! Could even charge a tenner and make some money

10,000 is the theory I work on and tbh, it seems to work !

I wish, trouble is that's the only place I know with a Bola and the space to use it.
Funny thing is that it's the same price for net and Bola without the coach, so may as well have the free coach to load it and point out the good and bad bits.
I'll have to do with a mirror and air shots in the mean time.

For me, yes. Corrected my stance, guard, grip, got used to wearing a helmet for the first time, got used to a Bola for the first time (only at around 55-60 mph, that's about my level).
Learnt that I stepped too far to off on the short stuff. Just got to make it all second nature now.

Looked at my bat when I got home, every green mark visible was in the top half of the bat

Absolutely nothing below halfway and plenty thick outside edges. Looks like I could cut my bat in half to make it lighter

Not going to as it's a brand new Amplus, thank God for the higher middle.

Great stuff. I know it's not the sort of thing people on this forum want to hear, but I think it's better to have less bats and spend the money on coaching, makes you a much better player than constantly changing bats will - believe me, I've learn't this the hard way!

On a side note, isn't 45 for 50 mins quite expensive? All the coaching round here costs 35 for a full hour.

I'd have to agree with you on bats vs coaching but it's always nice to have good kit. I make mine last a long time on my 5th bat in 27 years

Probably is expensive but being in Guildford and having the Surrey County Cricket Centre on my door, not much I can do. Mind you, they do have a few dates in December at �35.
