Have seen 2 non-helmet accidents!
First was me bowling in a match (leg spin) where the batsman went to sweep, top edged it into his face and had nasty cut an inch below his eye! Could have been a lot worse had it been an inch higher!
The second was out keeper who was standing up without a helmet (he stands up to pace too and is a decent keeper) and the batsman top edged into his eye socket! Hospital, lots of blood and stitches, worry from the Consultants as to whether he would get his full eye sight back and months and months of rehab was enough to persuade me that a helmet is the best option!
Have two Ayrteks now - light as a feather and forget I'm wearing them sometimes! Not too bothered about my ugly mug! But the thought of damaging my eye sight or having a wired jaw for months is not my idea of a good summer!

I've seen similar from a spinner in the nets.  The batsman knocked his front teeth out and split his lip to his nose.  The worst bit being that he had a helmet with him,  but hadn't worn it as he was in the spin net...

Always recommend wearing an helmet as prior to the introduction of helmets was opening against  Collwall CC against one of the quickest bowlers around played a foreward defensive missed the ball and ended up on the operating table top lip completely smashed by the seam of the ball.

Jason Roy hit clean on the lid of an old masuri then, and looked like it hurt! Visibly shaken.

Why aren't pro using the new standard?

Who knows, but with roys gap, 2inch lower and he'd have joined kieswetter in the next bed,

Anyone see that woman get hit in the face? Surely if your sat watching Roy and pietersen in a t20 your actually gonna watch where the balls going!
Instead she was more worried about her pimms

Impact dissipation can also be tackled as part of the design, we proved that the A.C.I.S liner gave results of 3x less impact force being passed through them when compared to other brands on the market when we paid for our models as well as our competitors to be put through BSI test procedures 5 yrs ago now.

Those designs havent changed and are still being use/worn on the market now.

Back in the day I didn't wear a helmet - no one at the level that I played at would have considered one. However, I did see a guy top edge a gentle medium pacer into his clock, which caused a bit of damage.
Some 25 years later, when I started playing again, I was obviously older and slower and started to wonder if I should get a helmet. I bought an Ayrtek thanks to one of Tom's very occasional sales. Yes it took a bit of getting used to, but the only way to do that is to wear it at all times at the crease, at any standard of cricket.
Obviously I could have bought a much cheaper lid, but I liked the look of the Ayrtek and it was at an outstanding VFM price.
I'm not any closer to being hit by a cricket ball, and wearing a helmet hasn't encouraged me to play in a different way, but it just seems sensible.
I really wish IJC Paul would share a story with the forum that he shared with me a month or so ago.
It might change a few minds.

For me its about mitigating the risk, if on the off chance you do get hit id want to:-

A. Be wearing a helmet.
B. Be wearing the safest option available for such an incident.

its common sense - should not be seen as a sign of weakness. i know of someone who died, after being struck while running to the non-striker's end.

Any further news on a new albion offering?

Having tried the Ayrtek i couldnt get it to sit right on my head with the inflatable liner and not the biggest fan of the new Masuri, im still on the lookout for a helmet that passes the latest tests.

No not yet.

Still trying to determine if my head suits the style too! Carberry looks great in the helmet but Broad looks very silly (in my opinion). It just doesn't seem to suit his head!

At the end of the day, wearing a helmet is a personal decision. As long as they're an adult, and are aware of the results of not doing so, then any  consequences are their responsibility; not the bowler's, and not the wicket. As for individual designs, I like the research and the look of the Ayrtek/Adidas lids. So much so, I ordered a custom black titanium from Tom, and sourced some natty pinstripes for it. However, it was just too big for my noggin. I could try a junior model, but until they come with a titanium grill, I'll pass. I've gone back to my old Masuri and am looking at one of the Albion models. Most other manufacturers' lids still look as if they should be worn by people who ride horses.

After today events it a intresting topic.

Ball squeezing through  grills are the tests done at different angles or just face on Because all the test I have seen where sent direct at the helmet straight on
