2014 BSI helmet regulations
« on: November 24, 2013, 07:23:55 PM »

Was Just wondering who all have complied with the new regulations for Helmets. I know obviously Ayrtek have as well as Masuri. But has anyone else? The GN and GM 2014 catalogues just have old helmets in them...i doubt those are legal, so whats going on...anybody?

p.s. and im still looking for that thread where the haters are complaining about Adidas just stickering up Ayrtek helmets and trying to sell them as their own...the nerve of them:)

I'd have thought the larger companies (such as GN and GM) most likely have complied to the regulations but I guess it's that sort of thing where you can't simply tell from a visual point of view?

Lots of mixed messaging going out to everyone currently about the new standard it seems and what it means in Regards to current models available etc.

I know us and masuri have carried out testing to comply with the new standard as I'm sure others have too but only the 2 of us have bought these models to the market for 2013-14.

what is the deadline to comply and what would be the consequence if they didn't?

If its the difference between concussion and a dimple in my helmet/grill/peak then I think it does  :D (Although yes, I know it's unlikely to happen!).

A ball penetrating the peak and grill to hit you in the eye will do damage at any level.

So IMO yes.

Correct me if I am wrong, but there is no new regulation as yet  - so Gray-Nicolls and GM are both selling helmets that are currently legal.

Correct...until the new standard is officially published all helmets are produced to the 1998 standard. Once the 2013 standard is published it will supersede the 1998 version.

Anyone had one penetrate the grill in any of their games ? Not saying improvements aren't a good thing, just that for mere mortals I doubt anyone would notice a jot of difference but will no doubt pay for  the 'research'

Had 3 lads at my club have it happen in the nets and saw it happen in a game last season. So in short, yes!

Thanks for confirming that.

Furthermore from what I understand, when the regulation is released, the manufacturers will from that point have 6 months in which to sell the products into the retail trade. The retailers then will then have no time limit in which to sell the stock through to the end users.

Ayrtek and Masuri both have a helmet which they believe will meet with the new standards, but as things stand Gray-Nicolls, GM and the others are all selling helmets that meet with the current standards.

In the last 14 years 3 times.

2 juniors who's parents had adjusted the grill to full opening cos there kids couldn't see. One a full toss, the other a top edge.

And 1 this year at adult level. We'd posted a low score against the champs, so our opening bowler came steaming in down the hill and tried to bowl as fast as he could. And beamed the guy(accidentally)
At first we all thought it just hit him and he as shaken, but after the game, he had a seam mark to the side of his left eye socket! Very lucky man.

I got a new Albion Classic at the start of the last UK season. It's the same helmet Mitchell Johnson wears except my grill is steel where his I'm sure is titanium. There was info in the box that it conformed with new safety standards and the ball can't fit between the peak and the grill no matter how it's set up. The grill has since changed to be a bit a bit bigger vertically, but I'm sure the ball still can't break through between it and the peak.

even if the gap is small the ball can push the peak of the lid up and the ball can get through unless they have designed a new peak
