Let's put it this way a lad for a club I coach just arrived to choose a cleft and I gave him some bats made to try to see what felt nicest for him. He said he wanted 2-9 as the newbery he uses is that weight. He picked one up and said it felt perfect. It was just under 3lb. I suggested not to go for that weight of 3lb but we would go 2-11 with a nice pick up. Hope that helps. He is a good player too so he knows his onions.

Paul shared the same advice with me over a potential new bat recently. It seems as if dead weight is (potentially) a small fish (often pickled) in Liverpool kit.

A few things really. I don't question things too much I know what I can achieve and how so don't over analyse it as I don't want to break the system. Paralysis through analysis and all that.

I'm loving this lack of BS approach to bat making
I've not seen a bad bat from you yet Paul

Both my Velocitys feel lovely and balanced. They're both light in dead weight at 2 lb 8/9 but they have that "floaty" sort of pick up. Very impressed.

Thanks northern i have spent a long time in the game and the whole idea is that I am trying to provide the public with what we used to get and like in the pro game but of which unfortunately not many pros get now a days due to the mass markets as they are

I also think its a value for money thing  Paul
You are giving us an opportunity to buy into your experience and knowledge in what makes a good playing cricket bat.
Kinda reminding me of the ACE bats from my youth, that were just just good bats. Full stop

My missus is gonna kill me, but I will pay you a visit before the season starts

so here's a deadly question...given your fantastic video on butterfly bats, why should someone who can afford the higher grades, actually buy them? assuming aesthetics don't matter to him/her.

let me restate the question to make it clearer: why should people ever buy higher grades, when the butterflies are just as good?

Because people buy for the looks over the performance and will always assume the better it looks the better it is.
