Must be a favoured tactic. As an opposition OS did similar, but was a bouncer last ball of the game to our number 11. Did it off 18 yards to scare bat and get extra ball. Umpire was wise to it,didn't call no ball, end of game, draw.

The OS was so pee'd off, it was so funny.

Alegded Pakistani U23 WK bat, can't speak a word of English. No coaching.
Club can get him for £3,000 for 12 league games and a few cup games
Is it worth it?
We can get a former Sri Lanka pro, for £5000 for the whole season, coaching for all sections and the piece of mind to know that he has coaching jobs elsewhere at local schools. Fleuent English and grade 3 coaching from ecb.  And Ca qualifications.
Club are going for cheap option  and getting the young lad from Pakistan what do you think?
I personally feel that we should be getting someone who averaged 73 two leagues above us.
However, would the former Sri Lanka player join an average club?
Any help?

Didn't need to read beyond 'alleged Pakistan u23' to tell you it isn't worth it, but a lack of language/coaching skills and the fact he can't/wont't come for a whole season makes it pointless in my book.

Back to my initial point, I've lost count of the number of players who have approached us over the years who 'played a few games for Pakistan A' or 'went to the U19 World Cup with Pakistan' etc.

If he has played that high a standard he will be all over cricinfo and other such websites. If you can't find anything then he is likely to be your typical chancer. Probably a good player as he will need to have some ability to back up asking for a fee, but don't let the fact that (he claims) he has played international cricket cloud your judgement.

He has played first class. We were given his stats however from what I've heard it's not very hard to make a first class debut in Pakistan if you have correct backing.

I wanted an Aussie or Saffer as not to be racist the team is half Pakistani, Indian and half white. Problems with this lie in divides between captain and the vice. The vice supports the captain fully but he has a following that only talk through their native language and often ignore captain.. Opens problems in dressing room and previous pro wasn't impressed enough to come back.

Need a real hard ass.

Good point, Jake. It annoys me when this happens as the juniors don't get proper coaching if he comes - whereas If we pick on qualifications then we can get promoted and with winnings invest in an 'international '

Yes I too have heard that it can be easy to get a game at a decent level if you know or pay the right people.

I guess it depends what his stats are like, however you manage to make it into the team, you still have to be good to do well. A club fairly local to me recruited a player who plays first class in Pakistan, with good stats to back it up. He took 80 odd Saturday wickets and scored about 600 runs, they still didn't win the league though.  :o

The language tension sounds bad enough without adding someone who is not going to be able to communicate in English, therefore naturally siding with the group that appear to be going against the captain. I have had this issue both on the sports field and the workplace before and it is very hard to police.

The lack of coaching input from a pro is the biggest downside to this for me.

It is very worrying. It's about 5 that are sort of anti captain. It worries me as they are beginning to ask for traveling fees and they live within 4 mile radius of club.
I've found it difficult in that changing room at times as has my elder brother whom has got stick from the group for a poor run couple of years ago.
I don't see a point in a hired assassin to come in and score all the runs, take all et wickets. I broke into the first eleven three years ago. I was selected by the captain and therefore became a complaint of the group - until I took a 5 for and out fielded them.
Can I ask how you managed it, Jake?
It's difficult,  captain has saved the club from going under and is great for te club but this group is bringing people to the club to help their causes..

Coaching is what we need the most IMO.
I am currently working with former Yorkshire pro and coach john blain, I want him to coach the sides as well as coach me but still play for his club and we still get level 4 coaching!!

Pakistan 'A' - the team with the biggest squad ever! Every Pakistani lad that has spoke to our club wanting some cash seems to have played for them!
