Overseas Player 2014
« on: December 09, 2013, 03:49:12 PM »

Hi All,

My Team who play in the northamptonshire cricket leagues are looking for an overseas player for the 2014 season.

Is anyone interested or know of anyone interested or know where to find overseas players from.

We've had an overseas for the last 5/6 seasons but they have always been recommended to us but this year unfortunately we don't have this.

We offer a very attractive package to players who would to come over.

Thanks

Which club is this ? Irthlingborough by any chance? If so, look up Leon Le Reux. Played for Oundle in 2011 and was bloody brilliant!!

That we be great! But were only in Div 2 so not sure he'd be interested!

Don't understand why clubs in the lower leagues look to get in overseas player. Use the money to spend on coaching, or putting players through their coaching badges. Chances are, you could get a player of equal quality by throwing 1/4 of the money at a local player. THey only become worthwhile in premier leagues where all the best local players are playing elsewhere for other prem clubs, and won't move. Pay for an overseas, and you'll have to pay for flights, accommodation, find him a job etc. We had an overseas at Perrott last year who was the worst player on the team. We had to pay for his flights from oz, then pay £50 p/w for his accommodation! Whats the point? Was at least £1500 and he took <30 wickets and scored <200 runs. And he was a complete arrogant (No Swearing Please) about it too!

Sounds like you were unlucky with that! Do the proper research or get a recommendation from a previous overseas/some you know overseas and a decent player coming over can really lift the team and the club. Kids at clubs love to be coached by the overseas 'pro'. I've witnessed good and bad overseas players come over and if you get a real decent one, it can lift the whole club and create a buzz about the place.

Disagree completely. Never seen one come to a lower league club that adds anything more than a good local club player would! Unless you are hugely lucky and get one that doesn't understand how bad the club is, he will only be as good as the rest. At premier league level, you might be lucky and get one that is better and makes a big difference, and I have seen some incredible ones in the WEPL, but other than that.... spend the money on coaching and long term provision, as opposed to a one season 'fix'

They're a div 2 side, so not really getting an overseas player to bully lower league bowling and get promoted on the back of 1 player. Once in their top div, chances are they'll be playing against teams with players being paid, so setting themselves up for next year with a overseas this year might help.

Also, you get an overseas that coaches the juniors and runs the senior nets, it can make a huge difference. You might find a few of the senior players more willing to help coach if the pro is doing it with them.

i agree with Mr Wickets, a decent pro can lift a club and really spur on the youngsters and i speak from personal experience. I dont like cricket, I cant bowl, the ball bounces twice or goes into the net, i just like to bat and that comes from the pros that inspired me as a youngster. Its only the thought of those pros training me that made me turn up to practice as a young kid.
