I don't think anyone was making any personal jibes at you Dave I know I wasn't... Just a tongue in cheek remark about Johnny's spellchecker...

Honest opinion time...would people pay £400+ for a bat that isnt in the CBF world perfection?

would the profile and stickers alone warrant the price point or would people over look the grains and willow for the fact of having one in their kit bag?

im not doubting the fact that both Asad and Paul both picked the best possible bats on offer. (I can still recall the thread where people called Hosk mental for paying £400 for a bat yet this price point is now 33% less than a top end bat is priced nowadays...showing my age/time on the forum now)

for £400 I would demand performance (the best) and a good looking if not the best looking bat.

They are grade 1, but I was under the impression they were "limited in numbers" so very expensive (been there with this black hammer things) but these don't "look" like limited clefts. MH do charge a lot for their bats but the performance of the top range bats are great. The normal bats are very average .... Which is reflected in the price.

Having said all that I wouldn't pay even £300 for one or any bat for that matter. I think that theses days Indian bats are starting to look better than some of these £450 bats and only £300

Garrett when you hand select your clefts do they have a weight written on them? If so do the lighter ones cost more or the price is based on looks?

Based on its looks when it's roughly sawn. Grains at the bottom of the clefts basically. Problem is once it's prepared marks, blemishes and small knots can be revealed. Weight doesn't affect price.

Here are 2 grade 1 clefts unplaned

aaahh ok. So why is the M&H ck22 so expensive? I assumed they were made from light weight clefts and so were limited because those clefts were rare and expensive.

Heres the problem. They are probably given say 1000 clefts and let's say 500 are grade 1 and 500 are grade 2. Of those 500 they need to make amplus, master and ck22 and use light clefts. Out of that 500 only say 100 might be light so they are deemed as being rare, probably rightly so. Unfortunately they may not be the best looking that are light, if you don't pick them yourself and weigh each and every grade 1 on offer

Having said all this I have had 2 distinctions and can honestly say I was hitting 6's by accident ... Both bats were just unreal but they were only £250 just 3 seasons ago. I don't think. Anyone would be disappointed by these bats apart from when it breaks and you can't find a good enough one to replace it without forking out the £75 a year price rise. I'm struggling to replace mine at a reasonable cost

Fair enough. I was asking because I pre ordered the ck22 from IJC and although in quite honesty, was not worried about the price, it is still good to know how things sort of work.

If you ordered one you will be very very happy, these top mh bats need a little knocking and then you will have a top top bat. I personally think they are the best on the market closely followed by Salix, I've seen some of their bats go like rockets but never used one.

When they recieve say 1000 clefts I can assure you there is no way that 50% are grade 1 when graded by wrights. At best it would be more like 100 clefts.

I beloved the CK22 was limited to I thought 50 bats but I assume that's not the case. Has anyone got one yet and can they comment, also interested to hear how they find the finish.

M&H have always been at the top end of the price ranges for many years. No one really knows why, it just comes down to if your prepare to pay the asking price and basically lots of people do. I have no doubt at the end of the season you won't see the CK range in sales.
There price points are more reflective of the current price points now a days though.

Personally I've got to agree with Dave on this one and although grade 1's are becoming very limited I don't see why people should start forking out £300 for a grade 2! It may go well and be nicely pressed but we all know you can find bargains that are say £150 and are Grade 3/2 that go superb....for example the GM bats. Obviously this would mean less top end bats if they were grading them truthfully but I think people would appreciate this more and accept there's only so many top end models

I'm yet to fork out over £200 on a bat so these £400+ prices we see these days just seem crazy to me mate!
