Wicket keepers wearing longsleves
« on: December 16, 2013, 10:10:28 AM »

I have noticed that all wicket keepers wear long sleeves. Does anyone know why they wear long sleeves?

Personally it's a habit of mine. Feel naked in short sleeves as stupid as that sounds. Gives protection for your arms when diving is the best explanation I can give. It's just a necessity for me and feels comfortable

They probably wear long sleeve to avoid impact and scrape damage to their elbows etc when they dive for a ball.

Yeah to stop scrapes is the best logical reason i can give like others have said. Otherwise its "because we do". I never keep in short sleeves, feels strange and looks really village if you ask me.

Out club kit is short sleeved so when I keep I have to wear a skin underneath (regardless of the heat). Keeping with bare arms looks Village to me!

Luckily the last few kit arrangements weve had ive sorted it so theres been a long sleeved option. Someone else is doing next seasons and ive already said despite being 1st XI captain i wont wear the club kit if it doesnt come in long sleeve.

I now have a blank shirt with long sleeves (and green trim so it's club colours!)
I might be lacking the club logo and sponsorship but at least I have comfortable sleeves haha

Oh dear...I'm clearly village then!  I agree that it makes sense to have some arm protection when diving and I wear a skin underneath if it's not too warm.  I may have to invest in some white compression sleeves for next summer, if it gets hot enough up north to not wear a baselayer!

I've never considered this so must also be a village laughing stock in our league  :(

I've switched to long sleeves for the last couple of seasons and would agree that it feels more natural. However, I wouldn't say short sleeves look village unless the gloves have long cuffs or are particularly dark

Maybe more of an aussie thing, but you get some very wierd looking tanlines keeping in short sleeves.

Ah, that's good to know...my gloves are white with a relatively short cuff, so maybe not so village (despite playing in a league featuring quite a few village teams, including mine! :(

Believe prior said in his book that he thinks short sleeves looks budget on a keeper

Our club was lucky enough to be in the position to buy every member a playing shirt this year and we bought the keepers long sleeves

I have never kept in short sleeves in the 15 years I have been keeping for a number of reasons as stated above. I keep in a now very old kent issued long sleeve cotton shirt, the old style before all this breathable gear came about . If it gets roasting like at some points last season than I wear a "cool" base layer. The main reason is the diving part but second is that it just looks better tbh.

I like to field and bat in long selves but as a medium fast bowler long sleeves can just get in the way...
I think long sleeves looks more classy and cooler :)
