Bat Shape Idea
« on: December 17, 2013, 08:59:41 AM »

Hi guys. Been reading this forum for ages so finally decided to join!
Looking to get some feedback on a bat design I thought about.
Im looking to make my first bat and have access to drawknifes, flat planes, round planes and rasps.
My idea is to have the middle of the bat full and non concaved and the bat transitions into a concave as it gets closer to the shoulders. Therefore the middle will be full and powerful whilst having somewhere else to take the weight off.
Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy your stay!

The design will certainly give you a bat that packs a fair punch, but will most likely pick up pretty bottom heavy! What a batmaker here used to do was the opposite, to achieve a nice nice and light pick up. . the design  will work for someone who likes bottom heavy bats though! There was a very peculiar and interesting design someone asked B3 to replicate, where they concave the toe area, and kept the middle unconcaved. Maybe you could work on something which incorporates these designs? Good luck with it, if you wish to source some clefts, you could talk to Red Ink or Hell 4 Leather! Maybe even contact MSR and ask ask if they have any cheap and big net bat,  which you can reshape!

Thanks for your thoughts Chad. As I don't know anywhere in Australia to get cheap clefts, I was thinking of buying a cheap bat here and reshaping it. do you know anywhere in Australia to get cheap clefts?
Thanks
