lovely looking bats, I don't know if it's just me but I quite like the way you always photograph them on top of wood shavings. Not sure why I do but it just fits!

Can't beat a few wood shavings. Good do with smellevision so you get the smell of freshly shaved wood to go with it.

Gee you make nice bats, I like that they are distinct and an Aldred, could be picked out  of a line up of unstickered bats, certainly not a clone of others.

Out of interest, are you happy to make your new shape with a tough higher middle?

Awp don't be fooled by the shape of the new velocity the middle is massive. People think that the more traditional shapes are low middled but if you think of all the great players that used the old bats on quick bouncy tracks it just shows that a good bat is a good bat in any cricket. Ours are a play on that shape just bigger. I spent last year messing around with the shape and played matches with different make ups of it to find what worked and this is what I finished with. Like I say they have big middles as do all our bats. If you ask grains who picked up two bats today I'm sure he will tell you no different. He had two supremes but they are still big on the hitting area. Also with the velocity people are amazed at the pick up of them as they think they would be a bit bottom heavy but they pick up beautifully

Question Paul:

Why so many butterfly clefts around lately? We went ages without seeing any of these but now they seem to be everywhere. Not that I am complaining I love the look of them just curious is all.

What percentage of clefts you receive would be butterfly clefts and has this always been the case or are there more than usual about in recent times?

To be honest I think I have started a trend. Wrights have a lot in stock but people haven't wanted them because the fashion has been for pure clean faces. Pure clean faced clefts are getting less so I decided that we should try and bring back the butterfly bats as they are great pieces of willow so that's how I have gone. I have put them at rock bottom prices to try and bring them back into popularity but I can guarantee that someone out there will try and hike the prices up for them. If they become more popular again we may look at bringing out a grading system for butterfly clefts as the looks of them do range quite widely, not sure really but will see. But like I say unfortunately over the last 20 years they have been out of favour. To keep it all honest with the customers butterfly clefts are actually grade 4s purely because of the stain. The grains are fantastic but you have to see through the stain sometimes to see that. So if anyone tries to tell you they are of a higher grade cleft you now know the truth.
