Your Perfect Bat
« on: January 10, 2014, 02:56:23 PM »

So I'm sat in work bored stiff and I've been having a think... What would your perfect bat be?

Personally I'd go for 8-9 grains - straight as possible, touch of heartwood on the outside edge, weight around 2.8 with a generous spine height (not fussy over edges personally!), nice gentle bow too.

Would be interesting to see what everyone looks for in a bat!

I genuinely couldn't care what it looks like on the face.
I suppose nice grain is a bonus, but I would just go for..

2lb 10/11oz, real nice pick up.
No concaving, high spine.
Awesome performance.

pretty much anything that I haven't had to pay for.

8-9 grains.  1/2 inch longer blade.  huge middle about 3lb.  Oh wait, that's my new match bat!

Seriously though, as above but looks aren't an issue, so long as it performs.  If a grade 5 covered dog performs better than a super duper pooper scooper grade 1, I'll take it!

perfect handle and nicely balanced

i dont care if it is concaved, convex or whatever as long as it feels right and doesnt just have a middle.

all bats have a half decent middle, its when you hit it a little higher up or lower down that you can tell a decent bat.

100 per cent right john unlike you mate half of us don't find the middle that of often I recon maybe 1 in 10 as a average

Always said coverage

Between 2-7 and 2-9  got to feel right in the hands.

Prefer no heartwood but if it has no worries has to be curved at the bottom edge and if no bow is evident a curved edge making it looked bowed    Balance and feel

2lb7 - 2lb9
Oval handle
Extra half grip on the bottom
Mid middle
Light pickup
7-9 grains with a couple of blemishes on the face
Heartwood on the outside edge (non essential)

Not fussed about edges size or concaving, as long as the middle position is right and it's pressed well it will perform well.

Minus the heartwood which was non essential I basically described my new bats! ;)

I am sure it is possible if you remove the last requirement in my original post  :)...hence that is most important and unachievable....
