Gray Nicolls PowerSpot Bat - Thanks IJC
« on: January 11, 2014, 11:51:50 AM »

I have been buying bats from almost all the forum sponsors here and the customer service provided by IJC is second to none.
Took Paul's offer of pre-ordering 2014 bats and i am really impressed by the quality of bats handpicked by IJC.
I had asked for GN Powerspot - weight 2lb 9oz with 8 to 10 grains.
here's the specs of the bat i received
2lb 9.3oz bat
10 straight grains , clean blade and pings really well.
The pickup is nice and i have started liking this shape from GN. I have not seen a Newbery Tour in flesh but i imagine this shape is similar. So great profile and very well priced.
The more i look at the bat the more i admire the profile with no concaving.
With our local league starting hopefully in a month's time this is a strong contender of becoming my match bat.

Again very quick delivery from Paul and the pre order discount plus no VAT did help.

Here are the pictures of the bat:

Thanks again Paul for top class customer service.

That is the only bad thing about this bat....the sticker is not sticking ;)
Looks cheap....but stickers are my least of the worries

Given the lack of sales of traditionally shaped bats that we've seen from GM and others, I can only assume these are selling on the nostalgia. Hope the new ones are better than the powerspots of the late eighties and early nineties that I used...

Thanks for the review, Amit.  I'm delighted that you like the bat!  :)

Of all the SH bats I saw the last time I was at Gray-Nicolls, I feel the Powerspot offered the best value for money.  They looked great for grade 2 as well...

You have also given me an idea: Newbery Tour vs. Gray-Nicolls Powerspot video!  :)

Lovely looking stick!
One question, why is the edge stamp faint like that?

It is just the camera flash i think.

Most if not all of our powerspots have stickers like that, the big back splice sticker even comes away a little bit round the edges, you can sort of see this in the profile photo above.

I don't have any nostalgic memory of Powerspot - but not sure if you have held these bats...i feel this one fits properly in the arena of modern day bats.
It has decent edge size 36 mm for 2lb 9oz bat and nice spine height. As Paul commented - they are value for money.

The faint edge stamp is just the lighting - as the pictures have been shot with bat on the ground and a light on the top. May be later i'll take some day light pics and post those.

Kudos to Gray Nicolls for coming up with three completely different shapes - No concaving with powerspot, Huge T20 bat with Nemesis and a unique profile of Vortex.

Looks nice but the sticker peeling off is a bit disappointing. Same as the scoops where the stickers in the scoop were poorly applied, bit more effort from GN would make the world if difference

Clearly this bat is a fake. Power spots are meant to be duds not big logs like this! Stickers just confirm that it's fake.  ;)

In all seriousness Great bat! Loving the grains running through the back of the bat! Lesser stickers adding to the charm too. Handpicking clearly getting a winner!

Tims2000s, People like a traditional profile but still want thick edges. (oxymoronic I know!)  In fact most "expect" thick edges regardless of the profile!

Speaking to more normal players most seem to think that grains mean performance and edge sizes mean power. Nothing more, nothing less
