De-lamination?
« on: January 13, 2014, 03:14:24 PM »

I bought a new bat mid-season. 12 grains, light-weight cleft, amazing Pro level willow.
Knocked it in thoroughly.

There is a small area, size of a 50p, just above the middle which is making a rather odd noise. It sounds as if its split. The rest sounds fine.
It's not had a huge amount of use, the pic was when it was brand new.

Any thoughts welcome. Cheers.

A brand new pic isn't going to tell us if it's delaminated...if it is delaminated there will normally be a crack or split on the surface - my Salix delaminated however Jake at Vitas repaired it and it's spot on now

just the bat cover says hammer

de lamination will be very obvious and should happen after hundreds if not thousands of balls being faced

Id agree with the above statement, my match bat has delamed in a few places but has been used for the last 2 season and scored a over a thousand runs by now.

It will be obvious if it has delaminated as the sound is completely different when hitting the area compared to the other part of the bat if in the middle region.

There's a small video I made to sent to Charlie @ Black Cat(of whom I am still waiting a reply to via email), regarding the bat I received in a swap with a chap called 'Kaz' on the forum. When I started complaining about it, he hasn't used this account since.

So as you can hear, there is quite a large section of this bat that sounds 'hollow' which this is the delaminated section. In sunlight you can see that a section of the blade has risen and caused a cavity in the bat(the fibres of the bat have parted due to the bat being very dry). However they are not always visible.

I hope this helps you to clear it up.

Delamination does not necessarily have to reach the surface.

I'd be interested in knowing how this pans out fasteddie as this has happened to me recently... Although mine actually came up to the surface.

Kaz has shopped with me a few times. I believe he is a student, so could well be busy with exams etc, i guess it depends on how long you've been trying to get hold of him.

Well the sentences in your post are not constructed perfectly, you've shortened words in some parts but not others and the picture has been badly edited.
Have you considered going on a PR course??  ;)

Well, now you mention it...If this was a piece advertising my work I would have had my PR write it!

Looking at the video it appears to have started to delaminate.
I take on board the other posts and have recently put a scuff sheet on it to give it some protection.

It pings like a dream. Our teams best batter used it in the nets recently and immediately got the bat maker to make him a copy!

I am slightly worried about using it in nets, don't want to waste it. Might have to get a net bat.

if you put a picture of the bat in its current state rather than a picture of a brand new bat it would help a little more.
