I think Johnny is referring to one have a hole in the toe and one not which would suggest a different approach to making the bat

I think your find they made by the same bat maker

Does Marcus make the bats?

I just find it astonishing that if he does, how has he mastered pressing, shaping and finishing after 6 months working at SAF.

If you hear Paul at Aldred, it was only last year he mastered finishing and has something he's really pleased with. How has Marcus learnt bat making so fast?

Marcus does make the bats but takes them to some wear to use a press

Simon knows EVERYTHING about the bats he buys. He is a serious bat guru.

I have swapped bats with him and I know he can tell me exactly where, when and why they are what they are.

A serious bat Jedi.

Under bats their is a section under affinity phantom and Marcus has put a few comments on and I speak to him quite regally about his bats it's a good read and it's very honest opinion off the brand

The AE was one of the early experimental one Marcus did so I expect it was a test model. The hole is just where it's been put in the lathe to bind it so not necessarily a tell take sign as to who has made it.

He may use another method of gripping the toe now to that he used on this one. The finishing is to the high standard all affinity bats adhere too :)

Read this thread: http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=27875.0

Marcus steps on towards the end and (very candidly) reveals what he does and doesn't do.  It puts all the speculation to rest.

Nice bats very jealous, I been eyeing off an Affinity and a H4L, if my X181 wasn't performing so well I'd probably have one by now.
