How good are the thruxtons pads / gloves?
« on: January 18, 2014, 01:28:49 PM »

Hey guys,

Got a bargain on ebay for new thruxton pads and gloves, and just wondering if anyone has experience on then and how they are when kitted up and used?

I used them last season and really liked them, I've sold the pads on here recently and have the gloves still for sale but only because I won other kit (if I'd not won other stuff I'd have happily used them again this year). Pads are excellent, very comfy and not too heavy -  probably the best ones I've used. The gloves are comfy and flexible but I didn't like the palm as much as the cougar pittards used on other gloves.

Thanks mate for the reply,

Glad to hear they are great pads, can't wait to get started this season, just waiting for some things through IJC. Must say, first time dealing with them, and Paul is a top guy!

Never been too sure of Newbery gloves but the pads are as good as anything I have ever worn.

I have had a lot of pads (Was sponsored by Newbery between 2002 and 2004) and used pretty much every top brand since and the Newbery pads were the most durable and comfortable I have worn. I am currently using a pair of SPSII pads and I know there is very little difference between them and the Thruxtons.

I have just brought a pair of GM Original LEs off here for £50 (On the advice of one of my coaches) but even he admits not many companies are as good as Newbery with the quality (not always the design!!!) of their softs - plus you hardly ever see Newbery gear discounted too much. Quality will always shine through.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but better than starting a new one. Has anyone else had experience with these pads?. Do they have padded straps as well as a cup for knee protection?

Thanks in advance

I've got a pair of the pads, used them all last season.

The straps have removable foam bits that slide over the main part of the strap. I didn't like them too much as they stopped me doing them up fully. You can get rid of them though so not a massive issue.

They have a knee locator too.

They also have a memory foam insert in the shin bolster, which is a little inflexible but you can remove this. It hasn't made much difference to the protection, I still can't feel a ball hit my pads at 70mph.

As everyone else has said, they're top quality pads and offer great protection.
