Marsh is 30 as well...

In some way age is irrelevant, in the modern age players are playing much later (look at Rogers and Hussey from Australia)... wasn't Hussey 31 when he first played test cricket?  He then went on to play 80 test matches.

That could be Bailey!  or Marsh or anyone if they are good enough!  But maybe it should be Phil Hughes or Khawaja?

mark waugh commented on the lack of depth inthe Aussie batting.

he said back in his day they was batsmen in shield cricket averaging between 50-55 and they was no were near a test place, yet coolant has a shield avg of 39 and is aus next best thing.

has batting standards dropped?
have pitches changed?
or has the bowling improved?

Good  point age isn't the factor, I'm still pulling 20 something's, although apparently 40's the new 20!
As a general overview Australian batting depth appears to me to be on the light side.
Bowlers everywhere although there seems to be a lot recovering from injury.

I suspect the longevity arises from cutting back on the beer, pies and chips... Booney and Beefy would have hated this modern sport science era!

Ricky Ponting is actually a good commentator.... insightful comments regarding Marsh and Phil Hughes

Not too sad to see bailey left out putting to one side his batting ability which incidentally  my opinion was that it wasn't good enough at test cricket. The statement that he was proud that 3 Englishmen went home during the tour left a bad taste after he made it. I know I will leave myself open to ridicule however I don't believe it is appropriate considering the nature of Trotts withdrawal from the tour. Maybe the Aussie selectors didn't like that comment who knows?

Rather odd selection by Australia recalling Shaun Marsh based on his ODI/List A/T20 form.

They've only just realised selecting George Bailey based on ODI form was an error.

Marsh is hardly pulling up trees in the Sheffield Shield either. Averaging under 30, only 1 hundred and 0 fifties.

Both Doolan and Marsh average under 40 in FC, actually both average less than Bailey.

You've taken what he's said completely out of context there, mate.

Don't think so mate, I wouldn't have minded him saying how proud he was of his teams achievements in the Aussie summer. My view is that his comments were in bad taste. I take my hat off to what the Aussies have achieved and congratulate them. However we all must remember and this is not addressed to any nation in particular that the truly great players do not belittle their vanquished opponents. I watch in horror at some of the send offs given by international cricketers to opponents. England are as guilty as anyone for doing it. I will be pilloried for saying so but it is my honest belief that there is no place in any form of cricket for these send offs.

You have got to remember this is these peoples livelihoods.  They need wickets, they are on the big stage, they are pumped up and they do things in the emotion that are probably not planned (and they wouldn't do normally).  I think we can't be too precious about these things as long as after the game the teams have a beer (or isotonic catalytical replacement drink) together and let it go.  A bit of white line fever is an acceptable part of sport and can maybe spur players on to better performances?

I do agree that some of the verbals probably go to far.. but I am sure we have all said something we regret at some stage!

As an aside I used to love the Brett Lee lawnmower... now that was a classy send off ha ha...

Everyone knows the statistics..... But I can assure you that anyone who is anyone in the Australian cricket set up knows that Shaun marsh is the second best batsman in the country, full stop.  Many regard him as basically the 'second coming'. Obviously it hasn't worked out fully for him (or Australia's hopes) yet.  Let's see if maturity and being injury free will see him realize his potential.

Completely out of.context, either deliberately to bait, or he's just plain thick....like a lot of the half wits on here, including me.

Bailey was attributing the withdrawals to the pressure applied by the team. The pressure applied was immense, and the reality is that all the poms absolutely cracked, physically, mentally and in some cases both. You mightn't like that being the fact of the matter, but it is. That what Bailey said, nothing more, nothing less.

I think it is a bit harsh.  He at least deserved another series to prove the point either way... at least he got more games that Bobby Quiney!
Why? Did nothing at state or international level in the long version. Your basically saying that anyone who busted a nut at state level shouldn't get a go.

I think if someone is good enough to be selected then they should be given 10 test matches at least to prove themselves.

Bailey only got 5 tests and Quiney got 2 Tests... that is not enough to make a judgement either way. So why were they dropped? (or why were they selected in the first place?)
