Right then, been board and watching how to make bat videos, which switched to how are balls made.
I noticed there two different ways they seem to make the balls. And wondered why, and what effect it has on the ball.
Kookaburra
Indian
The difference I refer to is the outer seam. Not the inner seam.
Kookaburra stitch this on by machine while the half is just leather. And this seems to be a "pretend" seam. For no other reason than to be there.
The ball is then assembled, and the seam that holds the two sides together is stitched on by hand
Indian made, the is assembled and the two sides stitched together.
The outer seam is then stitched, going from side to side, with the stitch continuing under the middle seam.
This to me ties the two sides together, and others a stronger joint, between the two sides, this seam is more functional as it offers some benefits.
I couldn't find a video for duke balls, or any others. So unsure which manufacturers do which methods.
I just wouldn't why there is two techniques?
Does this explain why kookaburras have very little feel to the seem and don't swing?
Anybody have any insight?
