Ah, that's rather unfortunate... I don't think GN will really do anything about it, as you said, they would probably say you didn't knock the edges in enough. I always put fibreglass tape over the edges on scuffed bats, as it means that you can roll the edges over a smooth surface without the scuff sheet bubbling, and because edges can always do with just a little more protection. :) If it's anything, it doesn't look too bad, just knock in the surrounding areas to make the edge a bit smoother. :)

I second Chad's comments.

Those cracks should close a bit when you knock the area in.  Then put a bit of edge tape down that edge and you will be nice and protected.  That bat is very much still usable.

PS: What ball were you using to leave a black mark like that?

Very similar damage I did to my cor3(that was not knocked in) some hammer work around made it even out then some glue, before being taped and it's still very much a usable bat 3 years later,

Have to agree? Why is the ball mark black? Who was using such hard balls? If I ball feels horrible on the bat I have a look, if it's a bat breaker I ask the bowler to swap it, of he refuses, I'll just leave or pad up for rest of net to that ball. Really isn't worst losing a bat for,

I've emailed them both and are being helpful so i'm still hopeful something might get done. If not, as you say at least its still useable.

Its was actually a bowling machine ball that made that mark, must like eding it there (that may have even weakened it?)

Where was you at? Never known a bowling ball damage a bat. I've used them as the last stage of knocking in a few times!

I am with Smiley here.  I also have never seen a bola ball damage a bat... leave some weird dimple marks on a scuff sheet, but never damage a bat

must of had some wheels on it !

I usually use a bola on 60 odd mph for swing and turn it on its side at low 50s with max spin on it to knock mine in

Think a bola ball made the black mark and a cricket ball did the damage

That makes sense.

No if anything the bola ball should have compressed the fibres and made it stronger - it would have done some of the knocking in for you.

At Durham they annoyingly write with black sharpie on the machine balls - this runs of onto my bats and doesn't come off very well :@
