Hey guys, the tape he is using, is known as Zinc Oxide tape, if you are just gonna tape the finger up once and not remove the tape for a week just say, zinc oxide is the way to go.
If you are looking for just match protection etc, the have a look at elastoplast fabric tape. I use that for matches, never had any issues with it. Any fabric tape will do mind you

My thumb injured the same way as described in the OP when i was taking a low catch in slips, didnt took it as serious and batted in the next match but that was the biggest mistake,  went to doctor straight a way got a proper treatment with 2 weeks off from worked,  and now evrythin is super fine.

Moral of the story : dont take these kind of injuries light :)
