Little finger still injured from stave last season
« on: January 26, 2014, 02:04:15 PM »

Hi guys

Last season in around July at training, a high catch went up and instead of catching it cleanly the ball landed on the tip of my little finger (pinky). I played thru the pain of it as there was only like a month left of the season, but it's now nearly February, and the finger still clearly isn't fully healed, and it still stiffens up occasionally and movement in it is still a little limited. Any advice on what I should do?

I would take Smilleys's advice and go see a doctor/physio.

It just be weakened or still swollen but on the other hand you could have did ligament damage or you broke it and its healed incorrectly.

Either way it pays to get it seen to.

This long after the event the Doctor isn't likely to show much sympathy (they weren't happy I'd left it 3 days before I saw anyone), but it's worth going to see them, better safe than sorry as they say.

Even if it's only minor pain? What could they do anyway if it had broken and healed incorrectly?

Could be a finger ligament/tendon.

I've done the same, my pop round my docs

A massive ouch to re break and set... way worse than the initial break!

On the plus side, if you do it now you will be ready to go come cricket season.

Doctor. ASAP.  Chances are you've cracked the second knuckle and that affects the ligament that goes over the top of it.  Will probably need to be rebroken.

A&E to get an X-ray, I bust mine in two places at the end of the season, ended up with three pins in it for 5 weeks, I'll post a pic of the X-ray when I can.

If you ceebs going to the doctor, theres a brilliant method on taping up your finger(s)

I did my finger playing a league match (football) and was set to be out for a few weeks. But this method, just took all the stress away from the finger.

looks like its a foam padded tape. i used it last year as i damaged the tip of my left index finger. its still bad now. think its tendon and ligament damage. xray wasnt conclusive for any breaks so will just tape it up and keep playing
