Looking for a bargain G1 bat
« on: January 29, 2014, 01:41:41 AM »

Hi guys,

Topic title says it all, looking for a G1 bat, roughly 2.8, oval handle at the bottom, mid-low middle (think Hammer Hel 156). Would like a nice pickup, not a fan of hefty bats, if you know what I mean.

I'm not looking for top-end G1 (as in Affinity, L&W. But boy, would I kill for an Affinity Phantom. Marcus, if you're reading, I'm always open to sponsorship offers.)

I'm looking for bargain G1, so sub 200 pounds (350 Aussie dollars), preferably as far below that mark as I can feasibly go. I hear Hammer's Koning range is good value, although I've also heard they're harder pressed than normal. Red Ink seem great value, but I'm not keen on shipping a bat all the way here to Oz.

If I can find a lower grade bat that performs just as well as a G1, I'm all for that too.

Why are you against shipping one to Australia? I get all my willow from the uk, usually arrive within a week of ordering and a fraction of the cost of Australian stores for a comparable item. If your not worried about buying one without seeing it id get one from here.

It's a bit half and half, really.

Mostly, as you said, I want to feel and tap up a bat before buying, but also because of time. I'd like a bat before March, and I'm not sure it would ship before finals, while also being effectively ready for me to use in a match.

All of our parcels to Aus arrive within 5-7 days at a cost of approx £35.

I can do a Hunts-made G1 to any shape/spec you want for £165.

Seems to fit nicely into your budget. :)

I like the sound of that.

Does anyone have any experience with Hunts bats? How's the performance, ping, finishing, etc?

I've had a few bats made by the Hunts boys over the years. If you take the time to contact them and talk them through what you want (or indeed go through a retailer if you want a better price) you will get a nice bat.

They make or have made for many brands over the years, some are very well known, some not so much, even some former forum sponsors have been Hunts made. So their performance/finishing is very good, it has to be to warrant the stickers of some of the brands in question.

The Hunts off the shelf stuff is OK, not saying you won't get a good bat (someone posted a lovely low end reflex recently and I've seen many like it) but it can be a little hit and miss.

Send me a PM to discuss mate.

Ah ok mate. Can vouch for most of the brands on here, if your picky with what you want most on here wont disappoint if your happy to take a punt without actually picking it up. Getting one here before March wouldn't be a problem, like Jake said and just with my own purchases from England they are very quick to arrive and even with the cost of postage still heaps cheaper than Australian stores.

Just my opinion anyway :)

Where are you based mate?

Would free knocking in (normally £15) sweeten the deal?

At that price point you can't beat Warsop for a grade 1.
Why not a grade2?
The difference isn't huge.

Wow!!! Bargain G1 @ 200 quid??? I guess for us in India, that amount is huge and expectation is probably to buy a Players grade and some amount left for a pair of gloves as well  :D

I can do this for you. with the ashes offer on at the moment it would be £192.50 including postage. postage works out at £35 to aus and takes about a week so thats under £160.00 for a g1 bat. outside the offer it would be £210.00 again inc postage. either way an absolute steal!

I wouldn't be fussed about speed of postage, I got one sent 5 days £35.
The reviews on here are great but understand there is nothing like picking a bat up!
