7 games spread over 5 years, so I doubt there was a run in the side either.

my point was that no one had been in and out of England sides in the central contract era more often than Bell!

It's a Wierd one. Barring pietersen, you'd say he's the most attacking batsmen in iur test said, and explains why he is moved to open in odi's now it's the power play era.

I know root bowls spin, but currently I'd rather have bell at 4 than root in terms of batting.
But then I'd open with bell, so we don't end 3 down in the power play as we have been,

Hales
Bell
Lumb
Pietersen
Root
Buttler
Stokes
Broad
Jordan
Briggs
Anderson/bresnan/onions/mills

I knew I'd missed someone.

I had root as back up spinner. But sod it, root your dropped(again) Morgan in. Lol(maybe I should un apply for the England directors role, I'd probably forget someone!)

This seems to be a classic case of a batsman becoming a better player when he's not playing..

Ian Bell averages 25 in domestic T20 at a S/R of 114.. Even Alastair Cook has better stats(avg of 33 at a S/R of 130) than Bell but nobody is calling for him to be in the team are they? If Bell gets bought then he WILL score runs simply because he's a good player playing against some horrendous bowling. But that doesn't mean he is a good enough T20 player to play it internationally..

Not so much that - as was pointed out above traditional batsmen can score heavily in the IPL due to the lesser standard of bowling employed by most teams...

Also makes sense having a proper opener since the ipl is likely to be held in SA this year.

Dernbach should avoid the embarrassment and remove his name from the list given his t20 performances
