Mowers
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:47:37 PM »

Didn't know where to post this, but we're in desperate need for a new mower, we've seen this
http://www.cheapmowers.com/acatalog/Lawnmaster_TD_500_GOLF_Cylinder_Mower.html
Which we have raised money to cover, question is does anyone know about this mower, our worry is 6-7 year old ransome mowers on eBay go for the same cost as this one new, is it too cheap to be of any real use? Appreciate any help on this.

a lot of it will depend on what standard you play at and what you want the mower to do

im the volunteer groundsman for my local village and we have used an atco mower for many years and it has served us well.

personally i would be very tempted to try and find a well looked after second hand ransome/dennis/paladin.

check out www.pitchcare.com they have very good second hand machinery and also the forum has lots of very knowledgeable groundsman including some county groundsman.

We play in hunts league in Cambridgeshire it will be our only mower as we really don't generate much money at all. It would need to do square and wicket

We don't have a lot of money currently have a ransomes 24 for the suare + a ransomes auto certes 18 nch for wickets (tried + trusted simpe to maintain). Can't see from the link if its easy to adjust will be nportant if used for both.  Depends how funded also?

If you want a new mower heard decent things on Protea.

We're not fussed to be fair, but ideally looking for something that would last possibly 10 years without much hassle, think £1400 would be top price we could afford currently

We use a toro at our club and it is, as the cool kids say, Da Bomb.

Not sure if we have the same model as above but it requires less servicing than our other mowers although when the service does come round it costs a bit. If you are on a shoestring budget it is important to work out how much you can spend each year keeping the things going as they will need maintenance.

Agreed a second hand Dennis or Allett is a lot better than anything cheap!

Kev, my old man is mower obsessed. He's got loads, let me see if he's willing to let something suitable go, and we can have a chat next time you are in the shop.

Incidentally, if any cricket club (or golf club, or anyone really) has a spare £12k knocking about, my old man is selling his pride and joy, Toro Groundmaster due to no longer having use for it since mum and dad moved.
