Match bat 2014
« on: February 06, 2014, 09:32:12 PM »

Hi guys

I kind of know already, but I wondered whicj of the following should be my match bat for 2014. The plan is to keep 3, the Kook has scuppered my downsizing project.

No 1
Salix Pod G1, 2.10
The birthday present, pressed beautifully and sounds like a rifle. Not 100% knocked in but lovely all round finish hand balance

No 2
Redback LE, 2.10.8
The slow burner, bought in September 11, knocked in but toe mashed in nets. Not really used much until picked up weekend before nets, feels like it has wintered well, nice and pings, oh now it pings

No 3
Kook Bubble, 2.10.8
Big bat, soft and nice balance. Ping is nice and has nostalgic connotations, free so not too worried about longevity if performance is there.

Bat 4
Laver, 2.10.6
Match bat 2013, had a good season with this bat. A beaut, no one really likes it at my club but I can time the pants off the ball with it. Feels a bit odd recently, don't know why.

The laver should get better with age. Worst mistake I ever made was selling my 18 grain private bin because it felt dull. Our no.6 had his best season with it and it's an absolute gun.

I agree, my Laver is a great bat, not much to look at but feels good. I found I had more time to play using it last year. Is that weird?

I would Keep and use the laver as it sounds like it suits you. How does the redback pick up/feel? I had a go on thecords the other day and it felt like a feather for a bat that weighs 2-11+

If I had to let go a bat it would probably be the kook

The Redback is a lovely bat on the downswing and has a good springy driving area. It has taken a while to get to this point but is a serious piece of wood.

Is Redback still a going concern?

I'd go with the Kook as match bat, but I've all ways loved Kook!

If it was me and I had to sell one it would be the Bubble seeing as its brand new and it was a competition prize, meaning whatever it sells for is bonus money.

Regarding what bat to use as your match bat, I would use whatever bat you feel the most comfortable with. However the Salix is tempting.

Stick with the bat that you did well with in 2013 and offload the Kook is what I'd say.
Rob and I were discussing the apparent disappearance of Redback on Monday as seen next to none of their gear on here of late. Seem to recall a recent picture on Twitter of a retailer that was stocking them though so may be still going.

Yep here it ishttps://twitter.com/tccdevon/status/405683888682307587

Sell the Kookaburra.

I love Kookaburras but they take forever to open up due to the hard pressing and since it is brand new would have the highest resale value (in proportion to its original new value).

No it a different model mate that is  a Pb private bin.a
Steve
Use the two you like best sell te rest

I would keep the laver and one other depends in what you like but maybe keep the main laver goin and knock the kook in till the laver is finished or the Salix.

Sounds like the Redback is a gonna mate

Don't fix what isn't broke! Stick with what worked for you last year!
