Old School Bubble
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:45:29 AM »

Recently purchased this with the idea of refurbishing it myself. Had a quote off Kookaburra to do the work but would mean losing the stickers.

It's finding the time and somewhere to spend the time and effort cleaning this up and returning it to its former glories without damaging the stickers.

Tapped the bat up and still has loads of life in it.

I do have some double sided 3M tape which is the same adhesive as used in their helicopter tape - I was wondering if anyone has successfully taken stickers off a bat and re-used them?

That hardly seems worth refurb ing due to the condition it's in!
If anything just sand the face mate.

Light sand of the face and that's all that's needed, it really isn't in a condition that requires a sticker off refurb.

Don't touch it. It needs no work, and if you sand the face only it will look very odd.

To be honest it will either end up in the for sale section or on eBay or could be left for me to look at, don't think I can bring myself to use it

I refurbed a 5star last year and the glue I used to re-stick the stickers warped them and ruined them :(
As others have said it doesn't need anything done to it.

I have a copy of the 2003 Kookaburra catalogue and this was the chosen blade of one Graham Thorpe.

4 bats in the Bubble range then.

Bubble Thorpe Limited Edition - only 300 bats made.
Bubble Premier Limited Edition.
Bubble 5 star
Bubble 3 star

Prices ranged from £160 to £70.

In the same catalogue Justin Langer promotes the Sword, Ponting the Kahuna and Nathan Astle the Diablo.

Happy days

The old Kookaburra Diablo, what a bat that was!
Still had one floating around at our club until it finally died

Interesting topic. Screaming cat are the most expensive and probably the best bats in the world. Julian millichamp made bats are used by many professionals and if you ask him, he always prefer spine height over edge and doesn't do any concaving. Instead he goes for an extremely oval handle. Big edges only help reduce twisting the bat in hands but you can have the same effect by an oval handle. If anything, big edges means concaving means lower spine height means smaller sweet spot but bigger looking bats. Carefully see the bats of professionals, they have minimum or no concaving on theirs. Of course their clefts are special and big edges are the result of it but I would chose big spine over big edges and an oval handle any day. Talk to any expert pod shaver (Robert pack, Julian millichamp etc.) and they will tell you the same.

Please don't touch it :o. Especially if your intention is selling it, people pay for the original look in my experience.
