First Net Session!
« on: February 17, 2014, 08:33:41 PM »

It's my first net of the day tomorrow- which means that I shall be walking strangely, and have trouble lifting me arms above my head on Wednesday!
I really struggle the next day due to knackered shoulders and being asked to bowl in the nets.how easy is a sidearm to use?
If I was to get one tomorrow would it:
a- save the pain in my bowling arm
and
b- safe to use tomorrow night, or am I likely to scalp somebody?

It'll save your arm loads! However it will take about 20 + throws to get it right in my experience but some pick it up faster than others so you could take less!

Best thing I've ever bought!
My missus is lethal with it!ha, ,, bit too easy for her to launch reasonably quick beamers at me!

You need practice.

I still throw the odd Beemer down and and I've been using one for years.

Last summer we was having a net, a u17 picked up the pro one, and tried it, he missed the net, cleared the boundary a smashed into our scoreboard. Thankfully the shutter was down. Otherwise the groundsman would have lost it. Lol.

Agree it takes practice, seen one clear the net and end up in the school field behind our ground (thankfully it was empty at the time).

The odd beamer/wide still comes out but after a few balls most people I've seen get the hang of it.

Could be worse, a lad at my net last night got hit in the gooch. He was walking like john wayne for the rest of it.

How is it even possible to get hit in the Gooch?!! I can't work out the angles to this?!

Sidearms are great for throwdowns. Before we'd only do 10 minutes or so of them before arms got tired but we're getting 30 minutes in easily. They're not too hard to use as soon as you have a technique. I'm no good with spinners but have got a good seamer out it. I'm using the pro so no idea how the club goes? PS. Beamers may occur early on haha

Look at the specialist cricket retailers section with the likes of IJC, VITAS etc. They will!

Side arms are sweet because they take little effort to use,

Random midweek nets would usually mean getting 5 or 6 people up or there was no point.
Of course some would not run up. And by the time the last guy gets his bat, everyone is flagging, and people start drifting, making excuse to go etc,

Now, you only need two of you, and as mentioned, you can be batting for 30-40 minutes before you realise, and all bowled at a decent pace.

The club I find hard to use than the pro. Pro is stiffer to get the extra pace, the club is abit softer, this means it tends to spray more.
I'm also on my second club, as it developed a bend to the right, which meant you had to aim out of the net to get it on target.

My advice, by the pro and use it gently.

With a slight run up, the pro can have seem serious wheels though.
