Playing shots from in to out...
« on: February 18, 2014, 09:43:14 AM »

A few people picked up that I am playing my shots like this last night at training.

It isn't affecting me much at the moment but if the ball starts swining I think it may. Ithis purely down to back lift (not straight back, at an angle topwards my body.) Or something Else? And has anyone got any tips on how to prevent it. ???

Cheers

are you taking your hands away from your body when you lift the bat back? ie are your hands going towards 1st/2nd slip?

there is one problem, you should take your hands straight back and bring them straight back down otherwise your arms/hands wont come down straight and the bat wont be on the correct plain.

You could also have some problems with your foot work. if you are steppign to leg and playing through the the off side you would have to play from in to out in order to hit the ball

I only noticed today that I had this problem, Next net I am going to focus on pointing my bat at 1st/2nd Slip.

I got out on the weekend caught and bowled of a leading edge because I was playing this way.

I play with my bat facing towards 1st slip, how I was coached with Hertfordshire colts...

never had any issues with that

my bat points to first slip ........... i think ........... but my hands stay close to my body and go straight back and not out to first slip.

Mr Tendulkar

If you do that you have to bring them towards your body to play the shot or you leave a massive gaping hole between bat and pad. if you are then driving on the off side your hands then go towards the off. your hands have therefore gone from in towards your body and then out towards the ball (ie in to out)

best to keep your hands close to your body and use your front shoulder as the steering wheel and then unleash the willow down a straight line.

other than what GarrettJ says - also check your grip - quite often if a player's bat isn't coming down and through straight, the grip is wrong

it should be something like...

I had found i had recently started playing drives inside out and hitting much squarer on the legside. Quick session with a coach revealed I was picking my bat up fairly straight but with my hands too far away from my body. Still feels a bit odd pulling them in tighter but has me back hitting the ball much straighter again.

There's obviously all sorts of crap going on with me - my grip is a lot wider than that and I tend to play outside in... :(

Many moons ago a coach drew a small line on the top of the bat where my bottom hand 'v' should be.
The bat face was pointing to 1st slip.

I also have a high elbow which (for me anyhow) keeps the bat straight.

It works.

Don't worry, relax, surely your own bio mechanics have a method which will work easily and can be repeated by muscle memory. Enjoy.
