I opted for a wasp for a few reasons

1. Had a look and feel of one last year and fell in love.
2. I won't spend more than �200 on a cricket bat as for me its all about performance and im quite sure that most �200 bats perform just as well as more expensive ones.
3. The retailer I have bought it from is renowned for getting the very best bats in each range from every manufacturer So I know it will be a goodun.

To add fuel/retardant to this fire, I have an interesting case study regarding a Salix at my club. Our wicket keeper has a Salix (I don't remember which one but he paid a lot for it a few years back). He doesn't play much anymore as he has a dodgy back and is in his 50's, but he has two sons. One son is 25, the other 22. Both of them are accomplished cricketers having played youth county set ups until their mid teens. Last season, they both used the same Salix. One of them scored 800 odd runs last year at 40odd and swears by the bat, the other one can't hit the ball off the square and claims the same bat is a crock of (No Swearing Please).

I have never used a Salix so I can't pass judgement, but it has always struck me that the value of something is however much a person is will to pay for it. I'm sure if you asked these two brothers how much they would be willing to pay for that same bat the figure they announce would vary wildly.

that is interesting I would have to agree but I would say that maybe each player had a different preference of shots? if a player likes to drive and flick the ball, they wont like a high middle on their bat? Are they both similar types of players too? if one player makes 800 odd runs I would think that it is more likely to be the other players failing rather than the bat....

There was another thread talking about the value of a bat in an interview with Harsha Bogle with Sachin saying that a top priced bat can make a mental difference.... i'm more inclined to believe him than a forum member tbh.... (it is in the pro bats thread)

Both fairly similar although the one that scored 800 runs is more of a nurdler. I think he still uses the Salix, whilst the other one has bought a Kudos and seems to be liking it in the nets.

ok so the Kudos has a lower driving area than an older model Salix bat I would guess? so maybe there is the difference if the guy likes to get on the front foot he will prefere the Kudos?? be great to see the difference in shape of the old Salix and the new kudos if you can get a pic at nets next time so we can see ?

Sure if I remember I'll take a picture. Either way, I feel you are missing my point. One mans garbage could be another mans gold. If Salix want to charge whatever they want to charge and someone is willing to pay it, then that's what it is worth.

Surprisingly not very often really. A couple of times I suppose. Actually their family also had a Mongoose and the guy who scored the runs with the Salix often was relegated to that, what with being the younger brother!
