U19 World Cup

Unlucky to the u19's. Decent effort and might be some future talent coming through which is good.

However... Just watching the highlights and some of the celebrations are disgraceful from the English lads. I'm all for them being pumped up etc but they are just going over the top. Jones particularly goes way over the top. Can't they just celebrate gracefully?

Any comments on the effort as a whole?

Beating India was encouraging – through an age old they don't like it up them bowling performance.

Afghanistan beating Australia was a turn up.

rob jones has come through the same academy set up as myself and although i dont know him persoanlly all the coaches say he is extremly passionate and 3 or 4 have mentioned about how he hates loosing and loves winning. If im honest if i was in his situation id act the same, can see where youre coming from though

I have noticed this as well, so many celebrations seems to be aggressive and angry rather than happy.  It's faces contorted in anger rather than a smile.  I'm certain against India one of the Indians celebrated taking the simplest of catches by screaming angrily at the batsman and feigning to throw the ball at him.  The days of Murali with his big beaming grin seem to be long gone

Was watching a replay of Australia vs the West Indies, where a WI scored a ton. When Australia finally got him out they didn't celebrate just went straight up to the lad to congratulate him on an awesome knock. So sportsmanship does still pop it's head up occasionally!

It was shown in the last sa vs aus test too. Amla hit on the head you could see an Aussie ask 'you ok'

Then when he got his ton in the second dig, Clarke and a couple of others said well done as they walked off.

It was good to see as that's how it should be. I saw smith and co do the same for Rogers.

Being competitive doesn't mean you have to be a tool on the field! Amla, Rogers, de villiars etc will all be more  driven, more competitive and more talents than the English lads and yet don't go around acting like it. It's a modern thing and it's based on football culture.

The English boys did get their comeuppance today though. They choked massively, a lesson in what goes around comes around.

That West Indian players knock the other day was masterful. Brilliant to watch live.

Some promising talent in that England squad though...and a lot of it is ours!  TAttersall and Rhodes are quality and Mattie Fisher - bearing in mind that he has three more years at Under 19 level - is an awesome prospect!

Yeah, the Yorkshire boys didn't get involved in these over the top celebrations from what I saw. Some great talent as well. I went to watch Yorkshire Acadamy in the ECB Yorkshire League last year against Barnsley and Rhodes

Jones and Sayer were the main culprits from what I saw, so basically the spinners!

They are young lads competing in a World Cup semi final, and the game is on a knife edge - cut them a bit of slack!!!

As soon as a batsman gets 100 i will take my wicketkeeping glove off and shake their hand.

Im coach of a team that is new into 50 over cricket (this will be our 3rd season). i make all of my players clap a player to the crease and clap a 50. I also have them personally congratulate any batsman who scores 100, either at the end of the over or at the end of the innings.

cricket is a gentlemans game.

The lad Winslade had a mare in the last few overs, bowled the 3rd(or 4th) last over and sent down 5 full tosses, then drops a catch on the fence for 6, and then with a(n albiet tiny) chance to redeem himself by defending 4 off the last over he sends down another full bunger to finish it off at the first attempt.

Did make for a cracking semi final though, and a great knock by the two pakistani bowlers.

If I'm fielding near enough to the batsmen, I'll shake his hand and say 'Well batted' when they get 50/100. Once they get out or at the end of the innings I will always shake their hand and say well done, and the same to any bowlers that have done well. I take great pride in me and my teammates doing this, but then we only play friendly cricket.
