Got a sample Sm Pintu after seeing so many in India i was offered this.

Well it felt hard as rock at first yet i released it was very softly pressed indeed and the face was like a paper mashey moving into a crust.

As a bat buff i was very interested in so called handle technology the dampener system i decided to skin the handle and was surprised at what i found.

The tape they use is like the first couple of layers of the pot you get when you get a cast and it has set hard so that is where the hard as rock feeling has come from bit like a laver carbo core handle

So Jake your right there method is something different all together but still a method but not the tech we all really did know they didn't use.

It is a decent bat as you see i have added my own tape to make the handle bigger and it plays well but not a patch on my current bats.

Overall a decent bit of wood slightly under pressed for me and as a whippy handle lover not really my cup of tea but a good experiment anyway and a decent bat indeed and plays well.

15 grains including a kind of false growth through the middle
Taps up fine
Will not see the light of day.





Also got some new lacquer i have concocted to save feathering

That just looks like a normal handle with a stiffer "twine" than twine and PVA? Do you have any other pictures?

You are right Dave , it's lime plastered on twine. It used be the norm on cheapest Indian bats for hard tennis ball cricket and against cork balls.

It is a normal handle i have detwined it there was a bit of the tape at the top which was dry i wet it it has set like concrete.

I can get more pictures up it has made the handle set like concrete if you get my drift.

The grooves are where the twine was it has been set has the tape like i said it is hard as concrete and a pre set type.

The finish on the bat although the sanding is not great they have used a soap type compound and the finish although now diminished is not bad at all.

That binding is similar to the old style vintage bats I have / have seen.

Yeah I've seen that kind of handle before Dave, as suggested above it is common on cheaper Asian bats. It is a nightmare to get off!

(I know we discussed the following via PM Dave but i'm just posting for others who are curious)

As for the electrical circuit damper technology they claim to use, i knew it wouldn't be there as it is:

a. pointless. energy lost as vibration or energy lost as heat is still energy that isn't going through the ball.
b. banned by the MCC, for a number of years now.
c. not SM Pintu technology. It is Kookaburras Smart Bat technology which Kook abandoned when the ban kicked in.

I hate stiff handles many Asian players claim and with some substance a slight broken handle bats go better.

I do not care for the science behind it but the whippy handled bat that i showed Ryan last year is a belter.

I think a handle takes time to settle as well maybe a theory not shared but i think part of a bat opening up is the handle loosening but i could be wrong just another theory.

I've seen players 'break' their handles on brand new bats before to loosen them up. It isn't something i would recommend unless you have a sponsor willing to give you a new one every few weeks.

My Laver felt very stiff to begin with. It feels better now, and the handle loosening up probably has something to do with it, combined with the bat feeling less like concrete the more i use it, it's lovely now!

Also from the first pictures i was adamant i had seen this before, but the close up has me second guessing. Is the stuff on the handle almost like a mesh or gauze? If so i've seen it before.

The pintu is so soft yet feels so hard due to the tape concrete time to send it down South for a test.
