My new Affinity Persona
« on: March 01, 2014, 11:51:35 AM »

Just prior to Christmas I decided that the thing that was really missing from my life was a new bat and being the festive season didn't want to take that chance that my wife would happen to know that I like a mid-middle bat weighing around 2.10-11 with a slightly toe-heavy pick up and a thickish oval handle. I decided that on a risk-return basis, it would be much more prudent of me if I took care of the ordering of such a stick and my wife could pick out her new watch.
I emailed Marcus on a Friday evening (Aust time) and he responded almost immediately with a request to Skype. Long story short, 45 minutes later I had finished discussing what sort of shots I score most heavily from, my batting position and generally getting to know a genuinely top bloke. I emailed him some pics of my current bat (a custom made Scat) along with a measurement of the balance point of that bat. He informed me that as it was Christmas, I couldn't expect that bat to arrive until the fist week of Feb which, true to his word, it did.
Marcus had emailed me while he was working on the bat to let me know that while it only had 6 grains, this was the best bit of willow he had ever worked on and that the wait would be well worth it. Never has a truer word been emailed! The bat suited me perfectly from the get-go and after some judicious bat-waxing and knocking in, was ready for match use this weekend. I straight-drove the opening bowler for 4 on the second ball of the innings and racked up my 50 in 27 balls before my opening partner got off the mark! The ping on this bat is from another World and while the pick-up won't suit everyone, it suits me down to the ground.
The bat itself? Mid-middle with a thick toe (hence the slightly toe-heavy pick up), 6 straight grains, no concaving and medium sized edges. The grains started opening up after only an hour or so with the mallet and has just gotten better and better with every outing.
I know, I know, without pics, it didn't happen but as I post from an iPad, it doesn't seem to pick up from photobucket. Can anyone help with this please?
I cannot thank Marcus enough for crafting this beast for me. I know there has been some debate on the forum lately about what is considered good value etc but I can, hand on heart, say quite openly say that Marcus (along with the likes of Paul Aldred) is one of a shrinking bunch of true enthusiasts that value that "art" of what he does and that his motivation is to see his customers happy.

i had my Scat made in front of my eyes so there will always be an emotional tie to this bat, hence why I will never sell it. This Persona is the best bit of willow I have ever owned. It just has that rebound that you don't get very often!

what are your thoughts on the Phantom, Simon? I was thinking of getting that before chatting with Marcus.

Install the iphone photbucket app onto your ipad. It works fine from that.

I had issues with the ipad app and that was photobuckets advice.
