Eng v WI - 2nd ODI
« on: March 02, 2014, 09:29:40 AM »

Is this a real crunch match today?

Cricinfo and Giles would have usbelieve all sorts of reasons for continued failure - much weakened side in Australia and basically an inexperienced T20 squad in WI etc.

However, this is still England and still a professional outfit. We seem to have lost a lot of ODIs on the spin, and it's all happening on Giles watch. To me we seem to be going backwards, and what sort of pedigree does Broad have to be leading his country?

I think we really need to win this today to stem the tide and for,a little bit of national pride.

Does anyone know what his win rate is from the games he's been in charge?

No idea on the stats but agree a victory is very important here. I know internationals are a different level but i'm getting really bored of all these excuses. These cricketers have played the game modes before (50 and 20 over cricket) so they aren't strangers in how to play the game. Granted they will come up against better players but surely sticking to the basics of bowling in the right areas and watching the ball and hitting it into gaps can still apply?

I'm not a Broad fan so don't want him as captain of any format. I sincerely hope the ECB move away from Giles aswell.

I think both the ecb and GILES have lost the plot. And this probably means GILES has got the job.

He said on beeps call up "he's a top bloke" not really a reason for a call up, but it seems to be why the ecb has backed cook. Prior said similar too.
So to play for England you need no talent, skill or anything cricket related. Just be a good guy.

GILES also said after losing the first game "this tour is not a trial for the full England job, the results have no bearing on that decision"
So has he already got it? Or been told it doesn't matter if we fail? We can still blame kp.

As for broad, he has firmly blamed the bowling department for the first loss. He said they was poor and not good enough. hmm your our number one bowler, and captain. Yet you only bowled 6 overs? How can you blame anyone else?

I was hoping that hales would be in today, preferably for wright. But with bells call up, I'd presume it's more than a strain.
Just hope dernbach doesn't play!

ECB won't change so long as Giles Clarke is still in charge.
All about money for Clarke, signing up with the BCCI and increasing ticket prices every year.
Don't forget that Ashley Giles is the cheaper option as coach.

Giles was fast tracked as a selector and now coach. It's the "good bloke" selection process. Old boy's club at the ECB

Giles has not really got a leg to stand on with this - I mean, its not like he has a massive number of players missing - Anderson rarely if ever plays ODIs so its just Cook and Bell plus the very junior Ballance.  So they really ought to be performing...

...the probelm is, the squad we currently have is not quite there and requires a clear sense of direction and the right attitude to putting together the future direction of ENglish cricket.  Does anyone really think that Piles is the man to do that?  He has been a loyal servant to England and seems like a decent enough chap, but as a top international coach?  I just don't see it - if there is not an international alternative (and Otis Gibson looks a good one, even if Gary Kirsten is disinterested) then tere needs to be some sensible analysis of the other options around.

If giles gets the job it will just confirm what many think...england has become a closed shop and thats the one thing we dont want more than anything.
There's no a great deal of choice for the job-kirsten wont do it because of the travelling.
I'd rather see a county coach get it rather than giles, someone like newall of notts
As a complete radical option, just employ batting, bowling and fielding coaches and everyone reports to paul downton?

Has anything been said as to whether Morgan or Hales are fit? You'd assume not if they've gone to the hassle of getting Bell?

All that has been said is the both have niggles, and although bell wasn't in the 30 man squad, he is able to cover either if one breaks down.
Something no batsmen was capable of.

Well except kp, he could open, and or be a middle order finisher........

Really don't like saying it but I hope eng are beaten. Giles, Clarke and Cook need getting rid of. Oh and broad as capt too (Cook getting rid as capt I mean).

Eng are just in it for the cash (ECB I mean)

At least it's not Dernbach!
I wonder which spinner from the last game will miss out today?

Anyone else find it wierd how Parry got in the squad over Briggs? He wasn't really given any decent opportunities did quite well in county cricket this year and then got dropped  ???.
