Was surfing the web and I saw that Spartan is paying MS Dhoni $4 million to use their bats, so was wondering does every good player get that much money from companies to use their equipment ? How much do county players and the average international players earn from sponsorships ? I have seen that many wicketkeeper batsmen use batting equipment of a different brand and keeping equipment of a different brand so are these dual sponsorships ? Do helmet and footwear companies pay players to use their products as well ?

no, most get very little actual cash unless they are on the international stage, when the money suddenly arrives.  Most county players get free gear, some don't even get that!

Players like Dhoni are the exception I think with sponsorship. How popular he is in India, Spartan will shift loads of bats due to this, the guy is a megastar there.

One of our old S.A. Pro's used to bat in the top/middle order for the Chev Warriors, and was sponsored by GM and all he got was free gear. I think he was sponsored by B&S near the end of his career.

But another one, a bowler who (and I quote) "without the quota system, would be no where near a franchise contract" was sponsored by BAS and go a bit of cash as well as the gear.

So I think it matters a lot on the company itself and what it wants to gain from it's public exposure.

Probably a case of he wasn't good enough to play FC cricket in his own right, but the quota system in SA means he had to be selected

Of course we can't comment if he was good enough or not because he wasn't mentioned by name. The quota system was there for specific reasons and is is easily blamed for people not making it at franchise level.

At the end of the day a company thought he was worth sponsoring and choose to do it.

Surely this is a case of the opposite, who was honest enough about his own ability, showing that ability is not necessarily relatrd to the size of sponsorship

Apologies if it caused offense, obviously none was intended. I was merely quoting a professional that played for another side in the league (who at the time played franchise cricket) to try and show that players don't have to be the best to be sponsored. And to be honest he wasn't the best as he struggled at club level and as far as I can gather, he lost his franchise contract a year or two later.

Whether there was any malice in the original quote, I'm not sure, but there definitely wasn't any here.

Quite a few of my county team only get free kit. Looks like it varies person to person though obviously. No pros contract is the same

I'd naturally appreciate no discussion of player names, agents or companies involved. But feel free to ask questions, discuss some of the ins and outs.

As Kippa says, everyone's contract varies. Some companies don't even sign contracts. Majority of county players don't get paid to use kit (or if they do it's a tiny sum)
