Spinners Finger
« on: March 05, 2014, 10:05:37 AM »

After years of bowling off spin and gripping the ball with quite a wide grip to ensure I get good revs on the ball I'm find my index finger knuckle is quite sore after a spell of bowling, I guess similar to a tennis elbow type thing. Is there anything I can do about this other than taking pain killers, is there a different grip that could be adopted?

Thanks for any help?

I also suffer from this and have done for many years. you can change your grip slightly just buy closing your fingers slightly. However I found I lost my control by doing this along with turn. over the years I just learnt to deal with it. when it starts to hurt i just throw a couple of arm balls down or change to wrist spin just for maybe two or 3 balls. I find that the pain only lasts a few balls whilst im bowling but  after the game I find the aches can last for a couple of days (depending on how many overs I have bowled). never even considered going to see some one about it though? maybe I should!!!

Just become a slow bowler instead of a spinner, I still get the odd wicket ;)

There is an off-spinner at my club that bowls with a three finger grip... He's been relatively successful as well.
