Sorry mate only just seen this! Uni Staff - one of their players whose wife plays in the same ladies side as my gf found out I was looking for a new club and invited me to their nets, they seem like a really good bunch so pretty tempted to move to them.

I remember you said them now. Don't think you can go wrong with either team really. Both nice grounds, uni staff maybe able to accommodate your cricket bag a bit easier

Ha! I'm a sucker for a big bag, current one is a lot smaller than the previous..! Change to something a bit more manageable definitely coming before the season starts though.
For sure they're both good clubs, that's why choosing is tricky! Looking forward to a new start, season can't come soon enough.

Thinking about moving clubs, tough choice if anyone can offer impartial advice?

Current team I'm at I have no chance of getting in the 1s as there are 2 spinners bowling in tandem, pro who bowls and and OA coming inside the next month.

2s got relegated and play in a league that's getting to the point of friendly cricket, but I'm almost certain to be top order bat and 1st change bowler getting 8 overs min (got 12 in a friendly and 14 in first game of season). But I was told by team mate in private I looked like I didn't care when I was batting (5 ball duck)

I got a text last week asking me to go and train with a much stronger team in a much stronger league, former test pro and a county coach and players pushing to make a career from the sport, so again unlikely to play 1s (I think), the 2s appears on paper to play a much tougher standard. Needless to say my head is turned by the prospect in front but don't know what is the better opportunity.

what would you do?

I assume you are in your early 20's if I read your profile correctly?
If so, then the normal advice would be to always try to play as high a standard as possible whilst you have the chance?
By the time you get to my age, you may be more than happy to play a more relaxed level!

Your other point is always a little tougher! If you play in the 1st XI with top notch players then that means you are unlikely to get a bowl and bat down the order.
So maybe decide what you want out of matches - I assume you would like to bowl 6-8 overs minimum as a rule and bat in the mid order preferably. And then find a team where your standard would allow you to do that. It is a balance and you may need to try more than one team, but worth trying so that you get enjoyment out of matches!!

Unless you are planning to be a pro, or break some premiership league records, my humble opinion is to play where you get the most out of it.

Most of us work all week, get stressy, have to deal with kids / teens / wives, and look to our Saturday's cricket as something pleasurable, a well-deserved treat at the end of a week.

Therefore, play where you enjoy it the most, with people that you like and at a level where you are genuinely contributing and not just making up the numbers. The rest doesn't matter.

what would you do?

 Having Readi the post a couple of times it really does depend what your goals are what do you want to achieve  you may not get into your clubs first team are you content with being a top order bat and first change bowler myself and many would be  also only you know if your teammates  look as if you didn't care comment is correct. As for moving to a stronger club  in a stronger league do you want the  challange  ?in the knowledge that players there want to turn pro yes it's going to be tougher but can you step up ? Will you get a regular game ? Yes it's nice to be asked and you won't know the answers  unless you take the opportunity.
But as others have written there  could be downsides .

Go to the team which will make you a better player not the team where you will play the most.

Fact is a year of dominating and being the best won't teach you anything. Look at the club with more than just "playing opprrtunities" is the coach good?, how many attend training? Will they invest in you? In 12 month you want to look back and say "I'm a better player than I was last year. That's all any of us can achieve.

Going down a level isn't going to hurt if you go to an improvement environment :-)

Ultimately I want to play at the best standard I can whilst having an impact.

I've been told by Vice Chairman who I've only met twice that I'd have an impact on Saturday teams and after one session apparently the lads rated me as a bowler. But I'm bound to be told that?

I'd always try and play where you think you'll enjoy it most, whatever that means for you.

I know a lad who comes from London to the west country every week to bat 9 and bowl the odd few overs in an ECB prem side, he loves that and clearly didn't enjoy it when he was playing a bigger role in a 2s side, but I think it's fair to say most of us would hate that! Personally, I always want to be getting a good game above all else, which can be tricky as an all-rounder to find the balance between standard and getting both your batting/bowling in.

In your situation, bit close to the start of the season to be thinking about moving isn't it?! I'd consider sticking where you are and seeing if the new club will let you train with them but play just friendly cricket for them this year, which would hopefully give you a good idea where you fit in and if you like playing with them or not so you can make the right decision next year.
