Hi Guys,

A mate of mine has a willow tree is garden which he and his dad are happy to take down, was wondering how long it will take to dry out so he can get a couple of clefts in the future. His dad has all the equipment needed but not a lot of knowledge at the moment....

What species of willow, what shape is the tree and what colour were the leaves?

depends on how you plan to dry the willow, kiln or air dried. Shouldnt take too long though, should have clefts ready to be handled and pressed well before the start of next season.

Is he experienced at felling willows as i have seen firsthand the difficulties that can arise when knocking them down - i only ask as it would be a shame to loose a round or two because it splits badly when being cut.

talisman- i have no idea of the shape, size etc. of the tree but may be seeing it tomorrow

dom- probably the easiest way possible to dry it so air dried i suppose....

lekka- will take some tomorrow if i remember!

sorry not very helpful at this stage, i think my mate wants to get it shaped by the start of next season, he's in a 2nd year of a carpentry course so he sort of knows what he's doing.....
