The Perfect World T20 team
« on: March 10, 2014, 07:57:59 AM »

As the World T20 is coming I thought this would be a good thread.
My World T20 team would be:
1) Finch
2) B.Mccullum
3) Kohli
4) de Villiers
5) Shakib
6) Dhoni
7) Afridi
8 Corey Anderson
9) Narine
10) Broad
11) Ajmal

Would rather Gayle ahead of finch.  Offers something with the ball
And Malinga for broad.  Otherwise, I don't think that team could consistently contain runs

Broad can bat a bit that's why I chose him ahead of Malinga and skipper definitely Dhoni !

And also wouldn't mind seeing Corey Anderson bat higher up the order, but for who?

Not a bad line up, but not quite right.  I'd prefer:

Finch
Gayle
Amla
De Villiers
McCullum
Morgan
Afridi
Anderson
Johnson
Ajmal
Narine/Steyn according to conditions

I would pick Watson over Corey Anderson. Anderson unproven in the sub continent/ against spin whilst Watson has a good record in the sub continent.

That's a fairly long tail (by modern t20 standards) and Amla really? Belongs in the test imo. Also a liability in the field. Morgan is good but not good enough for this team if I'm honest, and Afridi is very hit and miss! Would rather have Shakib (offers more with the bat than Afridi) and Dhoni (always dependable in the shorter formats).

A couple some have forgotten - Warner, Raina, Pollard, Hafeez and Yuvraj. No Steyn, Morkel or Gul ?

Finch
Gayle
Watson
Kohli
McCullum
De Villers
Pollard
Steyn
Ajmal
Narine
Malinga

Afridi, Anderson and Johnson at seven eight and nine is hardly a long tail in a twenty over game!!!

As regards Amla, yes really.  Its all well and good to pack a side with hitters but what happens if the pitch is a bad one or three are blown away for little or nothing?  You need at least one proper batsman in the side and Amla is the best bet at that role for me - he is classical, but hits the ball hard and in good areas.  If the boom boom boys come off, he can always step aside gracefully, but if not you'll be glad of having him there.

Morgan is a similar thought process - he is a bit different from Gayle, Finch, ABDV and McCullum and asks different questions of the bowlers.  He's ever bit good enough!

As for Afridi vs Shakib....really?  Afridi with the ball is quality, and complements the rest of the spin attack well for the type of pitches likely to be seen, whereas Shakib is easier to get after and, if a little more reliable with the bat, less explosive which, for a guy batting seven, is not ideal.

Afridi is certainly more consistent with the ball than the bat.

But, when he comes of with the bat he comes off! 8 of his international 50s has come in less than 22balls. Which is impressive.

Ive also wondered. If you had afridi, narine, ajmal, mendis and warne in his pomp in the same t20 side. Would it be to much of the same and scoring easy?
Or would they be 40 all out as they'd have to try to attack someone?

As when ever i watch a game with the above invovled teams always just seem to see them off taking the odd 1or 2 an over.
