Knocking in service - best option
« on: March 11, 2014, 08:38:18 PM »

Hi there

Just bought a new Warsop Venom Pro and it looks gorgeous. However, living in student accommodation, knocking it in myself by hand with a mallet would not make me very popular! So I'm looking to use a knocking-in service.

The advert for this service from Fordham Sports looks promising, has anyone used them before? Are they any good? If not, any suggestions?

Cheers.

Normally id recomend ijc. Bit they have just removed this service. And only do it for bats bought from them.

not sure on other sponsor i know they offer it but i believe it is for bought bats from them only too.

i do my clubs knocking in, and charge 15 a pop. Which makes it not worth if you have to send me bat and then me return it.

no one at your club offer the service??

There's a few juniors you can chuck a tenner at and they'll "do it" but the amount of hours that are actually put in as opposed to what is advertised would be highly questionable haha.

I think Uzi sports offer a knocking in service. I haven't used it though.
I have used serious cricket based in Dummer nr Basingstoke. I think they then give it to Chase cricket who use a machine to knock the bat in. Not to everyone tastes but I have had two knocked in with no complaints.

Yeah, Fordham Sports have a machine that does it as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZOUz-f4HL64

Would a machine knocking in not mean it would be a more thorough service?

The pressing bit scares me. And thinks they could do more damage than good with it.

Gm have 3face profiles. 7, 4.5, 2 camber
B3s face profile is 4mm camber.
Salix has a round and flat face. Etc.

Do fordham have a roller for the press for each profile? As the bat makers do. Or do they just wang everyone through the same press and hope they dont break it??

Suppose they can cover the edge cracks with the edge tape after.

This is the kind of expertise I am after! So what would your recommendation for me be? Someone called tim line just PMed me saying he offers a service for £20 with postage but he only has 5 posts.

Not trying to offend mr tim line.

But hes new and has no background. Youd be sending your bat to  and unknown source.
It may well come back knocked in, but it may well never be seen again.

Perdobally id ask uzi and vitas on here first. And if not maybe question fordham on the pressing front?

Personally id like a batmakers veiw on the press issues. Red ink? Rk?  Aldred? Your thought please.

Well to be fair the video does say it does the edges on the press. Unless the profile matches the face of the bat you will be putting all the pressure through the contact points rather than spreading it out evenly across the blade. In the case of the mongoose on the video, the edges are getting te working out but not the middle. I guess pressure is the key. Light enough not to do any damage but heavy enough to get the desired effect on the edges. Personally I'd recommend jake at vitas. Does a good job.

Machines don't do the edges effectively in my opinion.

We offer knocking in for 15 pounds, by hand. I've done it for a number of customers as well as some fellow forum sponsors and all seem pleased.

Thanks for the professional input! Regarding Jake at Vitas, have you got a link to his website or some contact info for him so I can get in touch? Cheers.

Do a knocking on vid on your channel. But a proper one.
Every knocking in vid people just talk. But only hit the bat about 5 times.

I wantnone where it actuslly shows you the correct method. Especially for edges and toe.
And then have it sped up x30 between explanations! So the 4hrs is only a 15min youtube vid.
