Pre-game: tape up fingers and take part in fielding warm up routine after running a few short sprints to get my heart rate up. Warm up routine involves rolling the ball out to fielders and taking throw ins over a stump then facing opening bowlers for 6 - 12 balls on practice track, finally facing spin on practice track for 6 - 12 balls.
During game: Set routine for facing each ball whether standing up or back: double touch of gloves then relaxed shoulders with hands touching ground in front of knees facing towards me; as bowler enters delivery stride this is my trigger to turn hands around and push head forward...watch ball and take with soft hands, relaxing on impact. This is the theory at least!
In between deliveries: banter with slips, encouragement for bowler, generally ignore batter and let gloves do the talking with the oppo.
