Crown Sports
« on: April 01, 2014, 02:23:20 PM »

Hi Guys,

New member here I have been looking (trawling) through these forums for inspiration for a new bat, I have wanted a handmade cricket bat ever since my first bat which my dad handed down to me when he stopped playing.

Which brings me to the subject, does anyone know what has happened to Crown Sports? I do believe they were based in Dewsbury? I may be totally wrong as I was very young when I took the drive over with my father, but when I first held that bat it felt like an extension of my arm.

Failing that, I'm looking at investing in a Solitaire as i've not heard many bad things about them, bar weight issues!

Thanks

Crown Sports was taken over by Raje Sports. I believe they make bats under the Raje label now.

You can't go wrong with a Solitaire for the price, there used to be issues with weights of bats as he had a analogue set of scales which were 2oz out. However he has recently invested in a set of digital scales which are very accurate.

Nope, crown sports are still going however they are located in Sunderland (Tyne and Wear) as the business was bought by a lad called Ella. The bats are really good and are made infront of you...as a custom bat should be

Can't find anything on the internet about them! Hmmm, might just have to stick to a Solitaire, I say might just, but looking at some of the images people have put up and the feedback from them, It appears they are some very good bats...

I think that might be a different Crown Sports, unless Raje was telling me porkies.

Crown Sports was definitely bought by Chris in Sunderland, got the original signs up in the workshop.

As far as I'm aware the Crown (Dewsbury) bat went in two directions - Raje (sorry can't remember his name, it's in the shop) and Chris Ellison at East Boldon.
Both are kosher & they're both good lads.

No website but you can contact the Crown Sports in Sunderland on twitter. A lot of players in my league use crown. Gary Scott who played for Durham is at my club and he buys his bats of Chris, they're only grade 4's but Ella presses them soft so he gets about 6 a year as they go extremely quickly.... 123* will agree with me that they might aswell not be pressed they are that soft

Yeah, make some lovely sticks. They make some great laminates that fly for pretty cheap.
